Does anyone here know how they are to deal with? It seems to me that they have some very nice looking cars for reasonable prices. But of course that's just what I can see through the screen on my monitor. Has anyone bought a car there? I have my eyes on one that I hope will still be there after the tax return shows up.
Never dealt with them, but if you are really serious about buying a car there and want me to go check it out just in case i might be able too. Nick
I didn't buy anything, but I almost did. The prices were way high, and the cars are no where near what they seem to be on the website. Alot of them were obviously doughed up with half assed paint jobs. I dont know how many of them are on consignment and how many of them are their own cars, but the quality didn't seem to be there for the cars that were inside the buildings.
Buy Low, sell high. He bought a few cars off of my buddy and wouldn't give shit for them, then they turned to gold after he got them. He asked about 5x what he paid. It's a great place to buy if you like overpriced 4 door junk.
i used to talk to him once in a while, when he was still running it from his house, always struck me as a really nice guy. of course his overhead's much higher at the country classic mega-plex- now they even charge admission!
I always wondered about that place. How about the place in Gray Court (near Greenville), SC anybody dealt with them? They're called Classic Cars of SC, Inc. They've always got lowball stuff but it never seems to move, which makes me think it might be no better than crap I can haul out of a Michigan junkyard.
I have a buddy that has consigned cars and has sold them, one car(a Cad convert) sold for $4,000 more than he was asking before he consigned it. Same guy also bought from there, a Frank Livingston 51 Chev fast back, its the one that is pictured in the custom article of the latest Rodders Journal. So it pays to keep an eye out at that place some weird and sometimes very good(sometimes not) cars pass through there.
I think about 90% of the cars there are hack job mud slung cars. even in the dimly lit barns you can pick out all the flaws. they had a 70's gm truck that was chopped, had a 350, in primer welds not ground for something like $8K. some nice cars there but all way overpriced. but if they are the only place you can find some certain car then go for it.
the cars available there go from nice, to one foot in the grave, that's for sure. something for (almost) every price range
Thanks for the opinions guys. They have a couple cars that interest me there. And Edsel for around 3,000 and a '57 Ford fordor that looks nice for just under $5,000. But, like I said, it's tough to tell from pics on the web. Nick, if I get serious, I'll let you know. A pair of eyes out ther could be a big help.
A little advice. theres a place near here that deals in classic rides. gave a guy 12k for a nice piece he had. told him it was the best he could do,the market was down. a week later the market must have turned around, cuz the car was on his floor for 36k & telling people it was one of the finest examples of that type car.i dont want to ruffle any feathers,so i didnt give much info...just the facts. the best deal to find is one from a private source.what are you lookin for anyways ???

[/ QUOTE ] From what I understand they have alot of crap. The guys that bought my 53 chevy went up there to make up their minds if they wanted to buy my car. They bought my car the next day. The place in green court advertises like crazy but for the prices I have never once considered going to check a car out. Just my 2 cents

[/ QUOTE ] He had a few nice cars when he first opened. I passed on a Square Bird and still kick myself. Since then it's all down hill, junk, junk, and more junk. I quit stopping there. Last I heard he was charging a dollar to come in the gate and look.
How bout this one he gave my buddy 500 bucks for (3 years ago). Asking price, $2,500. Every now and again he may get a good one but not often.
See Pigpen, this is what I'm talking about. Some of the stuff doesn't seem too bad. I'll confess, the car I was looking at was a 57 Ford fordor. It looks solid and clean and reasonably priced, although a little more than I might be able to spend. I realize that most of those type of dealerships are usually overpriced, but I still hold out hope. A$W Auto- I am not going to get sucked into paying too much for something like whover ended up buying that car. I just don;t have to funds burning a hole in my pocket in order to get fooled. On the other hand, I am looking for something to replace my tired old (1996) Sable and I would like a decent mid fifties to very early sixties (61,62) fordor of some sort to tote the kids to school in and driveon my 8 mile commute. After the taxes come back and I sell a couple pieces in the bicycle collection, I hope to have about 4 grand to spend. And I am probably doing some wishful thinking looking at cars so far away. You are right, it makes more sense to buy a car locally, that you can look over and drive and talk about while it's in front of you. So, we will see what the near future brings. Thanks again guys for all the comments. I appreciate the candid opinions and objective thought equally.
Ive emailed and talked to that guy on the phone before. He came across as a very cranky old man who didn't want to sell anything. After talking to him I realized that "running" does NOT mean "driving" so be very careful reading the descriptions. I know guys who have gone there and said everything was junk and overpriced. There is a place in Greeley(?), IA that seems more reasonable, but I've been told is just as bad. Stick with buying stuff from regular guys, not dealerships
Kids and wagons go together. $3950. Evidently he is willing to take an offer and negotiate some. There's a guy in Jolly Tx. that has about the same prices; maybe a little better quality. I got a '53 Chevy parts truck from him for $250. pigpen
Hellfish, that seems to be the consensus. Buy from people you know, or at the very least, not far removed from your circle of friends. It's just that these cars seem so ACCESSIBLE. The internet can spoil you that way. No work is involved in tracking a car down. All the pleasure and none of the work, you know? I know that the wild hot rod goose chase is part of the process and the dream, but more often than not it ends in heart ache. I just want to find a driver. And I know I will when the finances get sorted in the next few weeks.
It's also a great place to go if you don't have a lot of money but would like to buy an older car and fix it up over time. It was a relief to find a place where I could find a car in my price range. You get what you pay for. The salesmen were honest and I knew exactly what to expect when my car was delivered.
Country Classic cars: I've noticed a lot of people complain about the $1 admission, but what's a dollar? It's more the idea of it, right? When I was buying my car, I asked about that. The answer I got was the owners, in agreement with consignors, thought it was a good idea. They were having problems with people coming in off the highway and steeling small parts that they needed for their own cars. With that many cars it was impossible to keep track of that kind of stuff. The $1 admission gives people a sense that they are being kept track of and that the employees are aware that they are there. The employee I was talking to said that it has really cut down on the problems. All I know is can hardly be a money making technique. They lady who stands out there and collects the money surely does not do it at no charge. Someone is paying her, and only getting a dollar per person.
Thanks for joining our forum, completely ignoring the rules about posting an intro, then making up this story about how you (the owner of the establishment) are a customer who was so happy with what he was buying. Luckily, I'm sure you only tuned in here to defend your questionable business and I'm sure we won't have to hear from you again.
you're right, i did join mostly in part to defend this place because what I read was wrong and not true, it mad me mad enough to ignore the rules, which I am not totally familiar with, my apologies. I am definately not the owner, but would not be ashamed to be.
Interesting that when I responded to 65Chevelle's post, who is supposedly from Jacksonville, Florida, YOU respond to it as if I was talking directly to you, YOU who is supposed to be from Chicago. Someone NEEDS to trace this guy's ISP so we know that he's full of shit. He goes by the names Lazeboy, Jerry66 and 65Chevelle.
It's interesting that this post is at the top again at all, considering I originally posted it almost a year ago. And I got the answer I was looking for then. And I didn't buy a car from him. Shameless plugs, indeed.
Sweet! This guy is even totally dishonest on the internet! Yeah, I'll fork over a lot of money to him in a heartbeat and believe everything he tells me about a car! Sweet! regards, DJ PS - I do love the internet. It does so often steer me away from ad places to do business with!
