My book goes back to 49 and it says the firing order is 15426378 but the car is a 46 and the cap says 15486372. any suggestions? Did they have 2 different orders depending on the camshaft like the SBFs?? Thanks in advance...
i don't think flathead v-8's had 2 different firing orders. remember that 1 2 3 4 are on the p***enger side.
It's 15486372. The cylinders are numbered from front to rear 1234 on p*** side and 5678 on drivers side. The forward most cylinder is NOT #1....
Ya thanks I know where #1 is, just needed the firing order, as I said, my book says different than the numbering on the cap...just checking thanks...
I'd be careful of a book that screws up something so simple as the firing order of a flathead V8 - in stock form they were all the same.
The spark plug enumeration and firing order was consistent throughout the flathead era, but there were variations in distributor patterns. Here are good illustrations of each iteration. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/FH_images/FH_engine-pics/Flathead_Distrbtr-wiring-1932-41.jpg http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/FH_images/FH_engine-pics/Flathead_Distrbtr-wiring-1942-45.jpg http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/FH_images/FH_engine-pics/Flathead_Sparkplug-wiring-1946-48.GIF http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/FH_images/FH_engine-pics/Flathead_Sparkplugwiring-49-53.GIF
