Just replaced the front breaks, now it seams that the rod bottoms out just as I stop. shoes are adjusted right and all looks good. Could this happen because I did not bleed the front brakes?. LATER

Sorry==The one going into the master cyl. If I hold the brakes and give it gas it will move. It has very little brake at stop. But stops good up to that point. It has never done this before.

I replaced the front shoes on my 1933 Ply. coupe. the front end is an old chevy. It was on the car when I got it. I think this car was first built in the 50"s buy the way things look.. The rear end is a later one, I think 1968 Chevy. The rear brakes may not be right now, I may have to look at them.

Did you turn the drums too far?
Put the big shoe on the correct side?
    Bleed the brakes.

I just had a similar problem. When I tried to bleed the brakes NFG... Replaced the master cylinder with a $17 rebuilt and it solved my problem.

I did turn the drums - not to far. The master cyl. is only four mounths old. should not be bad. could it be rear ajustment ?. can only get to them by removing the drums.
I did not have this problem befor I fixed it..

    Here's your first clue.
It's something you've messed with. Probably NOT something you didn't touch.

Double check to make sure you put the long shoe where it belongs and didn't stick the adjuster in backwards. Easy mistakes to make. Releasing the pressure on the wheel cyl could have put a bubble in the fluid so bleed the brakes too.

    Are these self adjusting brakes?
Back up and hit the brakes hard a few times.

When you turn drums the shoes have to be adjusted out a bit to compensate.

If you didn't open up the hydraulic system, (wheel cylinders etc.) then you probably just need to adjust the linings. You said shoes so I'm ***uming it's 4 wheel drum brakes. All 4 wheeels need to be adjusted up for a light drag.

Front drum brakes can be difficult the first time you work on them. If it pulls to one side after adjustment, readjust until they stop straight.

Once you get the adjustment right then you can worry about m/cyls if the problem persists. Get the basics right first.
