Hi guys, im new to the site. My name is Jake Barker and I have always been enthralled with the 48-54 series of Chevrolet pickup. Im 20 years old and race Motocross in the Pro cl***. The in thing is for everybody to roll into the tracks in lifted diesel trucks, but I want to do something completely different. I want to build a bagged old Chevy truck to roll in with. Ive found a few that I really like the looks of (on this forums 48-54 Chevy truck thread) but basically wanted to start a fresh thread to get pictures and ideas more on line with what I want to build.
It will be powerd by a Chev V8, not sure whether it will be a small block or an LS series yet, Overdrive transmission, I want it on either 20's or 22's I think, no chop, but im leaning heavily toward an air system so I can lift it up enough for normal driving and then slam it in the weeds when its parked.
Like I said, Im looking for any information, pictures, links, tips, ect. I have a couple different trucks but would love to find one that someone has got some of the ch***is work done too and wants out of. Any contact info of someone interested in selling mid project would be great.

Thanks for any help guys, I will try to update this thread with build pics as I get going!!

Yep, but you might want to go over to the http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/ There are guys there who actually think that those hideous 20 and 22 inch wheels are attractive on an early pickup. Those wheels don't fit in with this board in the least.
Here Stock 16 inch steel wheels are considered huge for the most part unless you get into the real skinny 18 inch wire wheels off the Model A's.

But there is nothing sicker looking then the look on a 20 year old kid's face when the tire shop guys tell him that his week old $1000.00 22 inch wheel is junk and has to be replaced along with the $500.00 tire because he hit a curb or pothole with it.

20s won't look right. I wouldn't go bigger than 18s, if I were someone else, however-the 15s works for me.

Welcome to the HAMB. Ya lost me with the bags and the 22's but I think you have a great idea as far as a bike hauler. Just 'cause everyone else drives a lifted diesel doesn't mean you have to be in lock step with the crowd. I'm stuck in old-school but build it the way you want it, you'll be the one with the biggest grin at the next race.

Welcome the the HAMB. You need to spend a little more time learning what this community is all about. Some of what you've planned fits in well and some of it is never going to fit here. Those 20 and 22 inch wheels are one example. An LSx motor is fine as long as you always leave the hood down.

No one here is saying not to the build the truck the way you want it, we're just pointing that what you've described isn't what we're about here. That has several immediate impacts. 1) if we haven't done like you want to build we may have little helpful input. 2) When you come here looking for accolades on all your hard work and hear criticism for your choices you may find it discouraging.

    3) If you do something like use Billet wheels you may find the response unfriendly. There is an almost religious commitment to traditional hot rods here and you really need to dig around enough to understand what that means before committing on it or criticizing it.

  8. i think you should listen to mr48chev and check out http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/ . they should be able to help you out a little more for the kind of truck you want. just remember that those trucks you like that are laying rocker have alot of work into them, mustang II's front clips step notches etc. Just remember to do your homework and always build the truck that you want. good luck!

It'll be your truck though, so build it the way you want!
