we drug this out of the weeds last night car is loaded with all the options guy drove it up to 1991 had the motor rebuilt 20,000 miles ago the his barn fell on it crushed the roof in he parked it outside were it sat for 2 years car is pretty damn nice we just bought it to part it out .. check out those ac tubes ..
What a cool car, love all the nautical trim pieces, as will other restorers when you part it out. The factory air tubes in the back window should bring great $. Thanx for showing us the "almost a barn find", very nice. ~Sololobo~
You have a nice, complete car there. Pop the roof skin back up, get it runnin, and drive the wheels off it!!!
Why part it out, keep it together so it can be saved. I'm sure some Packard person would love to restore it, don't look that far gone.
looked to solid to part out , what a shame , to each his own id have at least had to start it an drive it
it has a a/c unit in the truck about the size of a top tool box the tubes go thru the speaker tray the cold air goes thru those tubes pretty cool . the underside of this car is not to sweet ..we will get it running not sure of the brakes .
So do the tubes take up the whole back seat area so people cant sit in the back or do they go over their heads?
That car doesn't say "Packard" anywhere on it. All the trim says 'Clipper". Packard was actually working on spinning off a cheaper model at the time. My 56 was a great car. The auto-leveling tortion suspension was far ahead of it's time. Put a battery in it. Look for a switch under the dash. Set in the trunk and watch it raise the rear...........Fuckin coooool. The factory AC components are very rare.
I know where about five of those are sitting in N Texas. I'm sure the fella would love to sell you all the parts you need to get it back on the road. Seems like a waste to part it out. Who the hell are you gonna sell the parts to anyway??? I bet you could count the number of '56 Packard restoration projects around the world - with your fingers.
Bop-Nut; Part of the AC package is the high-amp generator, so when you start taking it apart, that should go with the trunk equipment.............
Yeah, the 56 Clipper was just that, a "Clipper". They were not registered or sold as Packards. Sorta like Packard's answer to the LaSalle
Does it by chance have a 352 V-8 in it? Heck, I might even trade a good 400 SB short block for it if it does?? PM me. pdq67
There's a guy here who takes one to shows in about the same shape. A grille and bumper wouldn't be that hard to find for one, I know a guy with about 25 55-56 parts cars hidden in his backyard here - I might still have a lead on a 2dr ht, too, combine one with the other and bingo - Or did you buy it just to get your hands on a set of the taillights? If I remember right not all 55-56s have the torsion bars, it was an optional deal.
no we dont want the taillights. just the bumpers and grill . it has the leveling system in it .but the underside looks so crusty not sure if it works . the a/c tubes go up to the headliner so you can use the backseat . i would think its the 352 but cant find no markings anywere to be sure it was not in montrose . and thanks for the info on the packard and clipper i though they were the same .
The Packard Clipper was a model of the Packard Motor Car Company from 1941 to 1955, and the Studebaker-Packard Corporation for 1955 and 1957. Clippers built for model year 1956 are considered a stand alone make, not a model of Packard. Thanks to Wiki for this info......
