I have just joined after reading the posts for awhile. My Dad and I have built several cars over the years, including the chevelle that is in my pic. I have had it since the early 80's. We have enjoyed getting info from this site and hope to get more. We are currently building a T bucket out of parts that we have had around the shop that were pulled off of another rod or couldn't pass up at a swap meet. Some of them we have had for more than 25 years. We are wanting to put a ford flathead six in the t bucket. The tranny is closed drive shaft, but my rearend is open drive. I have found conversion kits for a closed drive rearend, but not for a tranny. Does anyone know if the there is a conversion for the tranny or a way to do it myself. I am not wanting to spend a lot of money. My goal for this project is to complete the build for under $3000.00. I can come in well under that if I can get this motor and tranny to work.

The motor and Trans are out of a 49 ford F1. I wouldn't mind putting a different trans on, but there are no adapter plates for a six cylinder. I am currently attempting to build an adapter, but not having much luck.

I don't understand the trans thing, I got a 52 F1 with a flatty V8 and a trans w/open driveline. stock, Seems to me that a F1 bellhousing would accept either a V8 or a flat 6. I'm sure some flatty gurus will chime in... Good luck

'46 up PUs had open drive. Only flat 6 with closed/torquetube would be out of a 42-48 car. Picture of engine/trans ??

Yeah, I thought the trucks had open drive by '49, that should be what you need. Are you sure that's where the engine came from? If the engine is passenger car, I think it's an F-1 trans that you need to run an open driveshaft.

Ford pickups had open drive from 1942-up and Ford cars from 1949-up.
Your engine/trans identification must be wrong.
