Can anyone tell me how to get the final plate down on the spline spring so I can get the U clip in? It is a real challange with the telescoping center that comes out when you use the spring compressor. There is no stop for it and the center of the spline slides out. Help GM tech!

Got a buddy with real strong thumbs? I just looked in the Cadillac manual sitting beside the chair and it doesn't show how to do it.

Pulled the rod and it was bent. I will try a drill bit in place and see is I can tighten it enough to use the spring plate tool. I dont count on much however.

take a peice of 5/16 all thread and cut it off so you can tighten the lock in the middle of the steering shaft with a pliers and then use your lock plate remover . you can also use a peice of rod down the middle of the steering shaft and tighten the lockplate remover tool tight to lock the telescoing part in,not extended and remove u clip
