OK, so I'm watching Hot Tub Time Machine ... and that gets me thinking. If you could go back and order a ride and stash it to recover it today ... what would it be ??? And be creative, don't just limit it to only what could have been. I am thinking a 1965 Chevelle 300 2dr Sedan, with a L-76 327 365hp, M-22 close ration 4 speed and 12 bolt posi with 4:10/4:56 gears. Radio and heater delete, back seat delete and I have even seen reverse light and ash tray delete in a wrecking yard so those as well. Oh and of course manual steering and brakes, with HD (F-41?) suspension. Of course I can think of about a billion others ... How about yours ??? Let's have some fun with this.
I'd go back to like 1970 and buy up as many 59-60 Pontiacs, Buicks and Oldsmobiles as I could find, including some of the ones I know sat in salvage yards into 2005, and stash them all somewhere. Why 1970? You could buy decent ones all day for under $500. At s**** price, under $20. (I know a guy who was buying whole cars out of s****yards in 1980 for $10 and $20 - 55-57 Chevys at that - and flat towing them home).
I would go back to fall of '56 and order a black widow 57 chevy with fuel injection and while i was there order a corvette transmission (4 speed) to install later on. Mike
I'd go back to 1981 and get my '39 deluxe, '35 5 window, and my '41 pickup back! All Fords, all sold that year for what seemed like tons of money at the time...
I'd go to '63 and order a Falcon 2 dr wagon with V8 & stick shift. A couple of years later I'd upgrade it with a Hi-Po 289, 4-speed, and disc brakes. I actually tried to do just that circa 1968, but after months of looking, I was never able to find a V8 Falcon 2 dr wagon in any form.
40 years ago in SoCal you could buy '59-60 Chevies, Ponchos, Buicks and Olds cars for $125-250 for a good one, depending on model. Nobody wanted them, then. A school friend of mine was given his dad's mint, one-owner '60 Biscayne post sedan, six-banger, Powerglide, when he got his license. If I'd known he was going to trade it in on a POS Tempest (with serious accident damage and **** repair job) I'd have probably offered his old man a C-note for the Chebbie and then gone out to find a nice 327/4-speed to drop into it. Going back to the '60s, I'd probably have opted for something like a 427 Fairlane or a 440 Dart - I knew a little old lady (from West Hollywood, not Pasadena) who ordered a brand new forest green metallic Dart with "the biggest engine they come with", Torqueflite, bucket seat interior, etc. The salesman couldn't understand why this old biddie would want to have something bigger than a slant-six, and apparently it took her to do a lot of convincing before the guy relented and actually wrote down her order.
'66 Hemi Charger, 4 speed, Dana 60 with 3.90:1 locking rear, heater & radio delete, rubber floor mats (no carpet), black of course, white interior, steelies with poverty caps. OR a '41 Willys, OR a '34 Ford coupe OR......
A '70 428 SCJ Pony with the DRAG PACK options. ... A '69 ZL-1 Camaro... A '67 L-88 Vette coupe and matchng roadster.... A '69 and a half 440 6-pack Dodge Coronet..... Man, I'll be here all night with this wish list..
That all sounds very good, in Super Bee trim. Metallic green with a black top and white stripe for me. I actually found one, where it had sat for about 20 years, and in need of a bit of work about 15 years ago.. for a price I could have afforded. BUT, my mother said that my first vehicle needed to atleast run. Go figure. Its long gone now.
66 Dodge charger w/ 440 4 speed and 3.90 dana, and probly a 61 Impala with 409 and 4 speed. Of co**** its just wishful thinking.
I like the way you think. I have a 67 chevelle 300. Love those cars. Talking about 60s cars I'd like an early 60s 409 bel air or impala.
68 Hurst Super Stock Hemi Dart. I saw/heard one at a local show and it was hands down the coolest "stock" engine I have ever heard.
I'd go back to '67 and hit Carroll Shelby's garage sale. A Daytona Coupe or two for $6500 a pop would work well. Kurt O
