  1. As promised heres a pic of my wheel - its not TIGed yet but you get the idea.

1"OD might be a tad chunky but it feels good

  3. Id like to clean it up and leave it unpainted - whats the best durable way to keep it from rusting? Any ideas?

  4. Looks cool. I don't know what you could do to keep it from rusting aside from clearing it. On something that gets as much use as a steering wheel, I doubt that would hold up too well though.

you can clean and prep it real well, than spray 2-3 coats of
a clear sealer over it.dont make it real wet though.than follow that with 2-3 coats of clearcoat.i've had real good luck doing that on axlehousings, driveshafts, suspension parts.

    Thats trick as hell!

    you mandrel bend that?

BTW... my two cents on the coating to use, and its gonna sound odd, but why not try a spar urethane? thats what boat wheels are covered with, and they last well.

    LOL

Fair enough. either way, its cheaper than the machine, and WAY more cool than a billet 'luminum jobbie

Did you consider twisting the wristpin hole 90 degrees so it would accept the rim?

  11. Nice work...I like it. Are they flathead con rods?

  12. Manyolcars - yeah in retrospect that'd be real neat. If I ever make another....

  13. That is very cool.

I need to make a rim from tubing also. Been thinking you could make dimples in the back side by heating spots cherry red, taking a small round bar and a bfh and give the bar a wack. It might cave the tubing just right. Think I'd try it on a scrap first.

    Very nice.

You may be able to put that gibbs stuff on it to keep it from rusting.
