Todd, You sure are building one neat looking Pontiac Roadster UTE. If you didn't know it you would say that is one neat factory build ! Will stay tuned for further progress. Will you be building a canvas top for the cab ?
Now that you've done an easy project, what's next. Just teasing. You should be very proud. Great job. Matt
You beat me to it......I tip my cap to you sir. Truly a wonderful build from mostly nothing. Serious fab skills....
Amazing build! I've seen it somewhere before... thanks for posting it here- I had forgotten about it.
Welp I gotta say.....what a cool build! Sucks that your stuck using a "statesman" dash however I believe you pulled it off as good as your gonna get it...it's not a detraction like I originally thought it may become....you pulled off something alot of us may not have been able to do.... Good job yo...
Thanks for all the kind words. Its gone over a lot better thanI had thought an EFI car could I'm still not sold on the Statesman (top of the line Holden) dash, but..... Certification isn't finished yet, but I don't anticipate any serious problems. The engineer was really cool with it. I think showing it to him in bare metal probably helped a lot, just showing that I wasn't trying to hide anything. I can only imagine some of the shit he must have seen I just scored a perfect pair of Statesman leather seats. Now I have to decide whether to put them in my daily ute, or this one.....
WOW. What a knockout. Makes me feel guilty for not being out in the shop working on my truck! Great concept, great exection, you should be proud of that one. Brian
Lookin good so far, although i too hate the idea of the statesman dash. Are you going to run bumpers on it? I've always hated seeing older utes (mainline, early 50's chevy, and single/twin spinner utes come to mind..) without bumpers, i think they would look so much cooler with them.
Todd, What a great result from a real mess. My hat's off to you for going through with it. Question... I noticed that the running board frames are built HEAVY, is that for the side impact regulation you mentioned, or just the material you had laying around? I'm becoming more and more intrigued with the OZ way of certifying custom builds. Do most of the vehicle engineers try to teach the builders; or is it more like they show up, tell you what's wrong, and leave it to you to figure out the solution?
I came across this car a while back and thought it was just too cool, nice to see the build. Great job.
Wow, that's determination, most people would have kept lookin' for another body after delivery..... but Hot Rodders are'nt most people! Keep us posted , this project is an inspiration to get us off the sofa and workin' in the garage! Excellent thread!
Wow thanks Todd !! Awesome build thread ...damn now ya got me thinking again about making my own Ute someday ! Isnt it fun to build something cool out of junk even if ya have to use some late model stuff
There's a quote that covers this but hardly adequate and that is, "When someone gives you a lemon............make lemonade." This is definitely the higher end of car crafting and I bow to you sir for taking the challenge and producing a winner. I can't wait to see it in it's final form and color. Thanks for taking us along for the ride and we NEED pictures of the final product. Frank
Wow this thing is absolutely amazing! I wish I was closer to see it in person. True piece of art. Love it!
