u need a power wire hooked up to the starter and a good ground, there needs to be a wire coming off the coil to ground it and one to hook to the positive battery terminal, then the final wire goes from the starter solenoid to the battery positive. the final wire is what will control the starter so it just needs to be a wire that can be removed from the battery, not attached like the other wires

AAAHHH like WHAT........... dude the coil needs a hot wire from the power source and the other side goes to the distributor not ground.

DO NOT ground the coil - ever. There are two wire on the PerTronix Dist, red and black. The red goes to the + side of the coil which should also have a full 12v power source when the key is in the run and start positions. The black wire goes to the negative side of the coil, there should be no other wires there unless you are running a tach.

For the starter, you need the battery + cable wired to the starter. The battery - cable to a good ch***is ground and then a ground cable from the motor to the ch***is. The starter switch gets a wire from the switch to the starter solenoid on the 'S' terminal

And our mufflers are SMITHY'S not smitty's :D

yup smitty is right. a ground on the coil just acts like a kill switch. not as terminal as it might seem lol

with the key on do you have a positive 12 volts on the + coil terminal?
Is there 12 volts there when the starter is engaged?

Tried it again..still no spark out of coil. I have the battery+ to starter solinoid, battery grounded to frame, eng. block grounded to frame.I have a wire from + bat post to + on Pertronix Flamethrower coil, the red and black wires from the Pertronix Flamethrower dist are connected black to - coil, red to + coil.I hit the starter with a screwdriver...and get no spark from coil.....I am ready to chuk it and run a HEI dist(ugh!!)!

I don't know if the Petronics setup uses a full 12V, or if it needs to use a ballast resistor, if it uses a full 12 V then all of the **** running through the solenoid is NEEDLESS.

If this is the case, run a hot wire from the battery (or ignition switch) to the + side of the coil, run the distributor hot wire to the same + side, put the - from the distributor on the - side of the coil, the car will make spark if the components are good.

If you need to run 8 v on the petronics you will need a ballast resistor in the "run circuit", but if all you want to do is hear the mufflers the above SHOULD work for a few mins of run time, providing the petronics module wont take a dump if exposed to a full 12v.
