Thinking about going ahead and replacing my driveshaft in my coupe while I have it down for repairs. It has probably been posted before, but I couldn't find it. Anyways here it goes. I currently have the setup with the driveshaft shortened and couplers welded on each end. One end to my 6 spline banjo rear and the other to my 35 Ford ******. It has been shearing pins as I have posted before. I am already going to be replacing the bearings and such, but I know my drive shaft is a little off and could be accelerating my problem. My question is if I have a new driveshaft made I can use the current ends I have now, but what wall thickness pipe do I need to use as the driveshaft? Also should there be any play front to back, I mean should the driveshaft be tight against the bolt on the universal joint at the back of the transmission and all the way on to the pinion on the rear? I have a stock wheel base Model A Coupe. 51 Merc motor slightly built, and a 6 spline banjo in the rear. I think the actual driveshaft may need to be shortened. I know there are a lot of guys on here who can answer this so I am all ears open. By the way this will be done at a professional machine shop!

I did mine a little different. I cut the driveshaft the same exact amount as I shortened the tube. Then had a local shop cut new splines in the six spline end. Reused the center bearing back in the same spot. Car isn't on the road yet but all is back as Henty built it so it should work fine.

I've got the 33-34 ford driveshaft in mine now, but I know it is not dead on true. Drive shaft shop proved it. I am looking at going ahead and just making a new driveshaft and I was wondering what wall thickness pipe one could use to make the new shaft out of. I could just re-use the ends I have now. I may be able to get a new 33-34 driveshaft tube and shorten it, but was wanting another option.

Anyone know the thickness of the pipe that a 33-34 driveshaft is made out of?

Yeah, I saw the kit. A little expensive. I ended up scoring another 33-34 driveshaft today for free in mint condition. Can't beat those prices and I also got an original 6 spline coupler. Heading to the driveshaft shop in the morning.
