The Aerostar springs are the way to go. They're readily cheap and easy to find. They'll drop your front about 2" or so without modifying anything else. If you're going with blocks in the back (cheap and easy way to go), do yourself a favor and make sure you can still get a tire off with the blocks in. I had 4" blocks in my '55 Customline and ended up installing air shocks just to raise the car to change the tire. Carry an air bubble in the trunk in case of a flat tire. Otherwise, you may have to take off the shock bolts at the bottom of both sides to get the rear end to pivot enough for tire removal. Just telling you what I went through. Bagging would be better, but not cheap. Cool car. Good luck with the project. It should be pretty easy for any backyard mechanic.

    bigshawn,

I did the Aerostar springs about a month ago and couldn't be happier- and only $60-70 brand new at any parts store.

Also, join the 52-56 Ford Owner's Social Group here on the HAMB. Tons of information and great people!

any specific year aerostar? I just bought my 54 project and was looking at the front suspension. Has anyone tried to "box in" the A-arms? I was told by an old racer that the a-arms had a bad habit of cracking. Really didn't want to go to a MII rack setup because of the cost.

Go to the HAMB 1952-1956 Ford Car Social Group and ask your question. Lots of guys there have done the Aerostar spring swap and will have the info you need.

My first car was a 53 Victoria, got it in 1958, I saved up till I had a $100 and bought a set of dropped spindle supports from one of the old speed shops in California, I lived in Nebraska at the time. Come to find out they were just the standard Ford spindle supports flipped upside down and marked to fit on the opposite side of the car! Once I got them on they were a pain to align, ended up having an old guy that had been around for a while do the alignment with the "blue wrench" after that they were perfect! Drops the front about 3 inches and the ride is stock.
