When I bought the car they wrote over there name -with me as the new buyer -anybody have any idea what DMV will say or what else I may need
the orignal release of liabilty is stll attached to the pink -with my name on it -also I have bill of sale

I would take a "Statement of Fact" signed by the daughter and son-in-law explaining what happened. You should be good to go then.

Well if its anything like here in Ohio, you will need the original owner of the ***le to go to the DMV and get a new one and sign it over. Even with a statement of fact our DMV won't issue another ***le. If the original owner is dead then you need next of kin, proof of death etc... Then they need to get a new ***le and sign it over. They should have just left the fathers signature alone and sold you the car, making it look like you bought it off of him.

Hope its easier than that for ya, but I've been through this here in Ohio.

did they have it in the Calif "Non-Op" program? State not too happy with cars not being in the system just showing up.

if you get a "statement of fact" signed by the family make sure it is done in front of notary.

there is (was?) a law in California where vintage cars owned by car collectors don't have to pay back registration.

I went through this several years ago with a 58 Bug. lady behind the counter told me there was no such thing so I had to get the supervisor over and look it up since she had not heard of it either.

not sure if things have changed since then. it may have been 10 years ago when I did this and it was a new rule at that time.

I've done something similar with the "statement of facts" thing. Worked out well for me. Good luck.
