Go ahead, throw a tunnel rammed 350 in that 5w Whitey. I got my frame out on Sunday and put it on Jackstands.....it tis beginning. I hope you're prepared when the day comes.
Tommy, no need to hack up the firewall with the extra room when using a set of 32 rails. Also mount the front crossmember in the original position. You'll have roughly 28-29 inches of room to play with. Plus there is more then one way to skin a cat. Just by moving the radiator mount not crossmember you can gain a inch or so. So now your at 29-30 inches and too much room. What I have found is not the length of the engine but what on the drivers side that causes problems. You;ll have to get the steering box and mount, column and joints and shafts ,headers, oilfilter 90 or not and motor mount all together . The trick is to get them to clear each other, look great and most of all be SAFE. So are you going to run a full hood? If your going to run lakes headers most of your problems are solved by running them. The Vega box mounts into the ch***ie right were the olfilter sticks out but the 90 will turn her away going forward. So guys do use the Volo stubby but not a whole lotta room to change the filter and not at every part store. Just for the record I do like beer and Jeffrey James is a Hoarder
Hi John, Thanks for the reply! No, I don't plan on running a hood. I may get a hood top section for a little rain protection for the carb on long trips, but definitely not running any hood sides. So I don't suspect the motor width to be an issue for me. With regard to the radiator placement, you're saying that the radiator can simply be mounted 1" farther forward than its original location? I ***ume the grill would be moved along with it? Sorry for the newbie-type question, but I haven't put together an A or Deuce grill/radiator yet so I'm no expert on how they mount. A grill and rad are high on the "next items to purchase" list, of course. I was planning on a 90 degree adapter for the oil filter. Hopefully, that will help with the clearance issues with the motor mounts, steering box, steering shaft, and headers. I'm hoping the side steer and lakes headers will also help with clearance issues. You don't happen to have any close-up pics of your installations, do you? I guess that would go for anyone! Thanks for the helpful advice! Tommy
