Tire Shaving in Rochester, NY area???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rocket hot rod, Jul 6, 2010.

  1. Anyone know where I can bring my Firestone Bias tires for truing in the Rochester NY area?

The car gets to shaking at about 40 mph. Reducing tire pressure helps, but problem is still there.

My axle setup and wheel balance is solid and adjusted properly.....so far. I am looking to get my tires round first and if that don't help then move on down the list of troubleshooting per other death wobble threads.

    Thank you.

Just call up your local BIG truck shops until you find one that will shave them for you. It's a common thing with semi's.

I would try to find some SCCA type racers. Back in the 90's I worked for Firestone and we had to do it for the road racers in the Firehawk series.

  4. Rocket,

Before I would shave the tires, I would try those balancing beads. I wouldn't want to tear up a set of good tires until know they are the problem.

Read here, a lot of skeptics out there are trying them and liking the results just might save yourself some $$$$ and grief.

had same problem.mine would shake badly at about 75-80 .tried the balancing beads and im never going back to weights.shake is gone and is a smoother ride all around.plus you dont have 10 pounds of lead uglyin-up your wheels.i think it was about 50-75 bucks for enough to do all four wheels.well worth the headache
