Wow!! Cool thread. I am born and raised in So-Cal, still a curent resident, and yet I didn't know about some of the cool places in and around my own backyard. Love the pics of the museum quality Duessies. I had no clue about the museum in Sylmar.

  6. G'day , after the Nettercutt museum we headed for Pomona KOA Camp where we were staying for the night , had an early night so we could hit Pomona swap in the morning . Up and walking by 5.30am we managed most of the swap and the car 4 sale display , but missed the VW swap , wasn't that impressed with the swap meet to be honest however found some bits , best buy was a set of Weiand Rocker covers for my 348 Chevy in my Coupe , here's some highlights , Love 63-65 Rivieras and this was sweet ,

Got to love all GM and Ford , Studebaker and most other Car Makers products for '59 , there were some great designs ......there wasn't many other particular years like that .........

Bomb's were everywhere and very cool ..........

Straight after Pomona we headed North towards San Fransisco , we had done HWY 1 from Pismo down so we stayed on 101 till Pismo and then hit HWY 1 again , the road gets pretty windy from Pismo up and the senery is spectacular , the trip is sensational if you have some time and basically ends at Monterey. There is some great sites to stop at along the way but we couldn't get onto the last bus at Hearst castle , even turned on the Aussie Charm , they didn't care :) The Elephant seal colony just up the road was a bit of a worry , large overweight snoring bad breath beasts , I think my wife saw a resemblence to someone she knows :D

We stayed under the big Redwoods around Big Sur and found this great little Bar /Diner for dinner , that man knows how to pour a Tequila .............

Hey Megan , you will be happy to know Bixby Bridge got their sign back , or a new one :D We finished the drive with a look at Pebble Beach 17 mile drive and then hit San Fran .

That night we headed for Boudins Bakery on Fishermans Wharf as we had been told of the legendary Clam Chowder in Sour Dough loafs bowls , sounds average to me but wasn't bad at all ..

Next morning we headed over the Golden Gate to Sausilito , fog was that thick you couldn't see the bridge from the road up on the way over , pretty common in San Fran , Sausilito used to be a bit out there and the floating Homes were the tourist attraction but now days it seemed pretty trendy and was nice to see ,

then we headed for Muir Woods to the big redwoods which was cool ,
started to get late in the day so we headed back over the bridge but stopped for some pics at the lookout first ,

Mate that shot of those 20s and 30s "gangster" type cars in the middle of that big ass room full of columns at Nethercutt Collection is priceless! Art Deco paradise.
The coverage of your trip is fantastic.
    Hope too c more!
    Nick.

  8. Thanks Nick , I will try to get more up soon , The Grand Saloon was an eye opener for sure and stopped the whole group in their tracks ,

Met a great Guy there named Jim who filled us in on the current projects , gave us a great poster for the Woodies on the wharf show that was coming up but unfortunaley we were going to be gone by then , he said Australia was on his Bucket list and we said when your ready let us know , we need to payback the favour and show him around a bit , hope I didn't get you in trouble with the boss for talking to long :)

Next day some sightseeing around San Fran was in order with a start at Fishermans wharf and then onto a tour boat around the bay and alcatraz .......

Onto the coolest public transport in the world , a cable car .........man they are cool .....

checked out coit tower and Lombard street ,which was as packed as Disneyland , some of the macnificent Architecture of San Fran houses ...........

cool Art Deco Trams back at the wharf ......

Thanks for all of the great tourist pics, I too often skip that stuff :(

I'm glad Bixby Bridge got the sign back. I'm going to have to take a drive over to get the pic of it with the '32.

The Nethercutt is really amazing, the cars really only are a small part of the place. They have what I believe to be one of the best restoration shops in the world and I've seen a lot of resto shops. I was able to show it to Denise when we were there in January during our GNRS trip.

  13. I lived in that area for a couple years and saw only a portion of those sites... as they say... "Familiarity breeds contempt" and when you live there... you just figure you'll get to see it some day.

But that some day never arrives and the next thing you know the place closes up or has a disaster taking it away forever!

Thanks for the touristy stuff from a car guys perspective!

Aus. and N. Z. are on my "Bucket List" and I hope to do it from a "Car guy Perspective"!

Next morning it was off to the Imperial Palace to have a look at the Vehicle collection above the Casino , not a bad collection of cars but not the best display after the Nethercutt in CA , we were spoilt there , Some cool cars though .......

This T-bird was a show special , looks like someone added a Starliner roof and painted it Candy Red but there was a few other cool touches...........and being a fan of Chevys W-motor makes this cool also , last of the 409's , and a cool colour....

While we were there some travellers came through ........Howard and John from the Rolling Bones , had a good chat for a while and looked over the cars , they were killing some bugs , was great to meet the guys and share some stories ..........

After So-Cal we headed back to the strip for some more sightseeing , headed up the tower up the top end of the Strip called Stratosphere , great views of the whole area and some Dic*heads doing this type of stupidity .......Off the side of the building ... glad I was not walking below

[IMG]That that night we headed up to Fremont Street in the old Vegas , this was Tourist Trap stuff but pretty cool , and the older style Neons up here were cool also ............
