Intoxicator Spanks Compe***ion!!! Besides slaving away on our rides, like we all do, it's nice to break away from the grind and do a little off-beat design and fab work just to mix it up a little. My friends in the Freakbike Militia bicycle club (http://freakbikenation.homestead.com/) put on a little downhill soapbox derby race about twice a year. Great time for the whole family, but I think the adults get more out of it than the kids. The latest theme was "cooler". So, I tossed together the "Intoxicator" as my entry. I always try to incorporate some hotrod stuff into the design. So, I located an old aluminum cooler at an antique store, styled the the wheels and steering wheel from vintage dragsters, had my Salvagerz car club bud Jeff Phipps (http://www.jeffreyphipps.com) sew a red metal flake tuck-and-roll cushion, got another Salvagerz club member and kick*** Kustom Kulture Artist Sonny DePalma (http://www.sonnydepalma.com/) to wip out the kool G***er style "Intoxicator" lettering, and finally, installed the Barney Rubble brakes. No not really, just a good old pair of Vans. What a blast!!! We all started with a solo qualifying run. I clocked in at 22mph on radar. (yep, Kenny P. has a radar gun) Not bad, not bad! The field then got paired-up until the "Intoxicator" stood victorious. It was great to see some really cool interpretations on the cooler theme. Next theme is Recycling Bin. That'll be fun! Enjoy the pics and video's...and yes the cooler was full! The Intoxicator Loppy in Tuck Shocker Kenny P's cooler Kids running tight Loppy qualifing Intoxicator Wins Semi's Shocker Time
I swear, Americans are so crazy. If there was more than one way to get water out of a faucet, someone would start faucet racing! On the flip side, are there published rules for this event? Gary
That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen! What a good time! Those have got to be a bunch of cool *** people to hang with!
It will accelerate quicker with the cooler empty. So the later in the day the faster you go. All that physics stuff? Great job on racer.
That is just cool as hell, you guys really have alot of free time on your hands the one pic with the guy sitting inside the cooler looks serious as hell about the race.
Aaaa, good eyes ol'chevyson! Yep, da man show'd just as we ran the final, but we got it all in. Maybe next time gr***hopper!
Just goes to show, if someone can figure out a harmless way to have fun, someone will figure out how to shut it down... More importantly - where the hell did you find a hill in Florida?!
The cooler was full when it started, but empty when finished. Gofiger? It kept getting light about 72oz's with each p***, which included "donations" to the the peanut gallery. Gotta keep the fans happy! It was all part of the grand plan.
The last few years the PoPo left us alone, this time we were not as lucky. He was cool and let us run the final then said "After this one, wrap it up!" Here was my cart from last year, the theme was, uh, well, "Grocery Cart" I made it as "Traditional" as I could, ya know, lowered, gray primer, blackwalls and red wheels. Really, what can you do to make a Grocery cart look cool?!
Hey Joe, you forgot the best picture. After the PoPo shut us down he proceeded to park on the gr*** to give tickets to people who were parked on the gr***! I know one of our club members got a picture of this. It was fun to take the photos but next year I will be sitting in the drivers seat.
reminds me of a comedy bit "whack" "we dont hit". any one call him out on it? i believe he may have had to write one to him self.
