I've always liked the Ala Kart, and for the past few years I keep hearing about how it's being restored somewhere, I even heard by boyd, but I can't see him doing that. Anyway, I keep hearing that, but I never saw any recent pics or heard about any progress. Is it just sitting like so many others waiting for a resto that will never come?

And what about the Kopper Kart, I always liked that even better, but I think it might be long gone now?

I'm not too sure about the current status of the Ala Kart. It may already have been restored, since the recent Mad Fabricators Society DVD showed either the restored original or a clone at Barris Kustom.

Rumors and legends persist that the Kopper Kart is sitting in a field somewhere in Ohio. A clone is currently being built by a HAMBer in New Jersey.

Could this be the clone Howdy Ledbetter built a few years ago...the cars in the background seem way too slik...and too new to be a pic of the original.

That picture is the real one restored. It premiered last year at the National Roadster show. Howdy Ledbetter did a clone a few years back that was spot on as well. [IMG]

Speaking of clones. The Kopper Kart shouldn't be too hard to duplicate with a good '58 to start with. On second thought, that thing looks like a **** load of work.

That was the clone at the barris shop...It's close but I don't understand one thing they went to all the expense to clone the car but on the tailgate there's some molding that you could get anywhere but they airbrushed
to look like it was there,....**** wiered...

**** the clone. **** it good. It's gay as ****. Hahaha

The clone is weak. It's kind of the "Bizzarro Kart"

There are lot's of details that are wrong, it's more of a copy than a clone.

Thanks for all the interest! I also am a big fan of the wildcat, but I know that met an untimely death in the barris shop fire.

I heard brizzio was doing the ala kart, but I didn't think it was done yet and never saw or heard about any progress on it.

I also heard about the kopper kart in a field somewhere, that's a real shame. I hoped that maybe someone pulled it out of the field by now realizing what it was.

I saw the original unrestored Ala Kart and the "clone" side by side a couple years ago and I agree that it is more of a copy. I spoke to Rod Powell at the show about the glaring differences and he said that Howdy built the "clone" as a tribute from memory and photos...he supposedly hadnt seen the original since it was first shown.

  20. I love the original Ala Kart, but the clone just doesn't do it for me. At first glance it looks close, but all the little changes add up and it just doesn't have the same cool vibe as the first one.

A pic was posted on the HAMB a while back, in the pic the truck is chopped and sectioned through the cowl (in progress). Sitting next to the truck is the Aztec! Quite a pic. Maybe someone else has it, I can't seem to find it on my hard drive anywhere.

As far as Howdie's tribute car goes, I think he did it for that reason, a tribute to the original.
I think he made just enough differences, like the scoop in the hood not really being a scoop but a "funny car" style rendering of a scoop, to make it obvious it's not the original, just to keep from being accused of being a forger, trying to p*** a replica off as the real thing.
If it was perfect in every detail some of you guys would have been all up in arms about the" forgery", and you know it... [IMG]

It's like the new Mustang being similar and reprising the look of the second generation Mustangs, without being an exact duplicate.
I like both Ala Kart cars.
I think they were representative of the trend of the time in show cars, in that a lot of other cars, like Lil Coffin, and Beatnik Bandit and lots of barn built cars used the same fender treatment as the Ala Kart.
(I worded that to not make any claim as to who did that pointy fender look first, because I don't know...)
I like the Twister T too but the restoration isn't exact either.
It doesn't have the chrome insert on the cycle fenders and the upholstery is a different shade.

I hope the guys making the copy of the Copper Cart are taking some artistic license and fixing some of the glitches in that design too, (like that "lump" in the prow of the body above the grill?)
