Some of you guys can find anything...see if you can find a film clip or photo of the 1932 roadster in the Hal Roach Short: "Beauty and the Bus"...1933, starring Thelma Todd and Patsy Kelly.

I accidentally found it Wednesday when I taped MGM Parade Show on TCM.

The Short is about Thelma and Patsy going to the movies and buying a ticket to win a new car there. (a brand new '32 roadster)...and they show the roadster up on the stage.

They win the car and drive off and get into altercations that ultimately lead to the destruction of the roadster!...I wanted to cry...they actually took a Brand New Deuce and destroyed it before my eyes...the horror...

I've searched and found a 2-disc set that has that Short coming out in October 2010, but can't find anything more...let's see what you guys can come up with...

ok, I just watched your clip and you ended it too soon...they are pushing the roadster away from this mess and it gets away from them on a hill and rolls down into a lake!

Although I believe Google is collecting data and information on me on a daily basis and is subliminally advertising to me and even taking photos of my house... I just did a video search and up she/they came.

    More info here http://www.imdb.com/***le/tt0023784/

    Cheers
    Andy

Note: I added the 1933 on the end, if you just enter "beauty and the bus" you get some "other" type movies

You want to see a '32 Ford destroyed (only a sedan)? Try "If I had a Million" from 1932. It was a group of vignettes. There is one with W.C Fields and Allison Skipworth en***led "Road Hogs" that is hilarious, but ends in a way none of us would want to see.

It's on youtube and it wasn't a sedan, it was a '32 Phaeton!

I don't know how to post youtube here, but they destroyed the '32...

To his credit though, W.C. did do "International house" in 1935, where through a series of happenstances he drove a brand new Bantam coupe on to the hotels elevator and continued to terrorize the various floors... One of my favorite quotes comes from that one - "You know, it was a woman that drove me to drink, come to think of it, I never thanked her..."

A couple years back, I started a thread with those same two YouTube logo.jpg clips of "IF I HAD A MILLION" ... but the Mods deleted the whole thread for being "Off Topic" (no Hot Rods) ... plus I think it was Tech Week

Anyway, here's some stills from the movie ...

Thanks to everyone for the above posts. In the day they were cheap props, and I bet the movies helped sell Fords. Sure would be nice to find them both today.

The Thelma Todd comedy reminds me of Stan and Ollie's silent cl***ic "Two Tars", where they cause the biggest traffic jam in there Model T Ford! Speaking of Thelma Todd, tragic death way too young, and she was a beautifal comedianne and actress.

Didn't they run a mint 33 roadster or pheaton into a tree in a 'recent. movie, The China Syndrome, or something?

    Cheers, Glen.

Yeah, it's sad now. Those were new cars then though, no different than crashing and totaling a new Ford Taurus now. They weren't cl***ics to be put on a pedastal or in a museum and worshipped, they were seen more as an appliance, or maybe a status symbol for the more expensive brands. Every time I see that old 3 Stooges camping flick where the bear drives away and totals that 34 phaeton (I think?), I cringe. Lots of old cars killed in movies. The bigger crime is new movies, made in the last few years, where scores of old cars are destroyed, ie Dukes of Hazzard, the new Green Hornet, and so on...the mayhem continues, gentlemen.
Sorry I didn't read to the bottom rustynewyorker, you beat me to it....

Jack Nicholson in a '35 phaeton. Car was fixed by owner and now is fine.

The '32 roadster in the original post didn't need that hood or fenders anyway. Some hotrodders probably bought the leftovers and turned it into a lakes racer. No worries.

    Cl***ic. I love W C Fields.
What movie was it where he buys a brand new Ford at a dealership, pulls out onto the street and instantly gets T Boned? ! seem to recall it was a 33/Coupe? There was also a scene with him in a coupe that gets hooked by a hook and ladder truck.

well in reality those destroyed cars probably wouldn't have survived to be around in 2010 anyways.

what sickens me is 90% of 40's bobber trucks we see these days. poor ol truck made it 70 years only to be destroyed by someone with bad taste
