I have an 833 4 speed. It is a new process 423. See pic. I am using the forward mount for a B body. Which Hurst mounting plate do I need? I find B bodies and it states, "for rear mounting application"??

And now I am starting to think I bought the wrong shifter 290435 E?

The shifter itself should mount up fine. The shift rods may be another story. Check out Brewer's Performance. They are Mopar transmission specialists. If you call them and have numbers from the shifter and the numbers that are stamped directly on the flat tabs that go on the trans they can most likely tell you exactly what you have/need.
