i just got a surprise from Torrance Court that i owe $1,400 (includes price for traffic school) for an illegal left turn i made after i missed a posted sign stating left lane for a specific street only. my left turn was at the following intersection.

    anyway, $1,400???!!! WTF!!!!!

i wasnt speeding, crossing a crosswalk, running a light.

    no pedestrians around.

its no wonder the state is bleeding and is now ****** the citizens for $$.
to fight this, it states i must pay bail FIRST to get a court date.

i havent had a moving violation in over 8 years.

who the **** has a grand laying around for a basic moving violation?

    thanks for letting me vent.

    Consider yourself lucky.
A friend of mine in his blown 32 lit up the tires in Long Beach- right in front of a cop (I was right in front of him). Got exibition of Speed. Still don't know how much but my guess is north of 4k. He'll need a lawyer for this ticket. 3 point mandatory they told him on phone.
2 weeks later & court still doesn't have cost.

That's almost enough incentive to start packing, and after gone, the no-show warrant would be additional incentive to never go back.:D

not really, ALL auto violation fines went up this year... in some cases they doubled. vehicle reg also went up.

steves32... exhibition of speed has been a no no for many years... your friend is lucky... a friend of mine did a burn out in northern cal (el camino real in San Mateo) got put into jail, impounded his car and got slapped with almost 10k in fines. he was 31 at the time, didnt BS the cop or show any disrespect.

An accountant I know was in Santa Maria for a conference, wasn't paying attention jaywalked mid-block to his rental car in front of a local police officer, he flew home $155 lighter.

He hasn't had a ticket in 20 years. He was very polite & offered no phony excuses.
He got to drive away- most are arrested & car impounded. He's no kid- in his mid 60's & should know better.

    Steve,
Is that ticket something you just pay the fine for or does he have to go to court, even if he is not going to contest the citation?

He has to appear- court recommended he bring a lawyer last I heard. If he's lucky- they can reduce to speeding. If he gets speeding- he can take traffic school & avoid the 3 point deal. It's a sore subject so we don't bring it up. I tried to get him to race me last Friday on way to Bob's, but he just flipped me off instead. ;)

Glad I got my speeding ticket 3 years ago. Pulled over for 93 in Palm desert. Cop wrote me for 85 so I could do school. Fine & school was $160.00

Friend of the wifes got a carpool violation & it was 900 bux.

The state ripping citizens off with such, and the escape from such ********, isn't a law enforcement issue. It's a reason to move the **** out of the People's Republic of CA.

But the indoctrinated wouldn't understand that concept.

all State's are suffering. Texas is facing an 18 Billion dollar deficit, I read just a few days ago. Its not a California thing. Your state is no different, I'll bet, so get lets not begin the California bashing, OK?

I've lived in several states, and a few different countries. I am fortunate enough to live anywhere that I choose to do so. I enjoy living here. It appears you may be reading or listening to someone who has an ax to grind. I think if you look in the mirror, it may be you who is indoctrinated.

Why would you make a comment like that about someplace you obviously know nothing about? And don't tell me that you "used to live here". Nothing is like it was, including Colorado or anyplace else. Why be rude to someone by insinuating that I don't understand something? Have you nothing better to do?

I'm glad Georgia has a State Cons***utional Amendment that the budget must be balanced each year.

    yeesh.

Everyone in Cali. should slow down and put the state out of business.

They don't actually want you to follow the law, you know?

One thing I rarely hear is any comments that the economic woes are national rather than regional or state issues.... With the country's economy in a slump it only follows that state economies will go down, too. Don't forget what started this whole mess...Wall Street and unchecked greed, that is still, for the most part, unchecked and functioning as foolishly as it has for the last 30 years.

All 50 states are suffering the same financial crisis and are in need of finding ways to increase revenue. The money has to come from somewhere and with the national tendency toward No New Taxes it's going to come from increased costs.

Here in Nevada unemployment is now 14%. In rural Nevada, where I live, it's higher yet with minimum wage jobs making up the majority of what's available.. Wallmart being the most desirable employer in the area. Lyon county is now at 18% unemployment.

People here just want to start an armed uprising and overthrow the government....

Everyone needs to be thankful for what they have, whatever that may be, and where they are 'cause the gr*** is no longer greener on the other side of the fence.

We've had it pretty good for a long time. Things are going to be rough for a while, no matter where you live.

When you don't want to pay taxes, you pay direct. It's sad and infuriating, but that is the why this is happening. Nothing is truly for free. On average, in the end, we all pay one way or the other. I kind of prefer the old way, but that's just me. Now, I just do whatever the hell I can to not get stuck paying the full direct bill. No front plates in San Fran. used to be $100 a pop. I tried hard, but still got a few of those before I decided to cave in and put the front plate on. Now I run an even greater risk of getting caught at redlight cameras, etc. (that is why SF jacked up the cost high on the no plate of course) I now make extra effort to avoid those problems. It is all a giant paranoia pain in the ***, but indirectly that is how most of us decided we want to run things. If you play, you pay. If you get get caught, you pay big. So, got to play the game I guess. Don't like it, just don't play or don't get caught. You save money if you can manage to stay ahead of that game.

I grew up in Bowling Green and live an hour away now. I still have family there. I've been to all but one Bowling Green HRR. There are a few intersections controlled by traffic lights that have red right arrows, which mean no right turn. Where did you get your ticket?

The thing I have a problem with, is that the fines were put into place to detire people from commiting the crime. It is ovious, at least to me they are rasing them to increase revenue. So, its a tax.

I'm so sick of this country...

I am glad I don't live in Cali. Wouldn't move there if you paid me.
