Razin Cain - Thanks. Not an engineering student, I'm an Industrial Design Student (product design).

Mindover - I will be working with Ray to make the panels. I had two semesters worth of internships with him, so I guess you could say he's my mentor and I'm his apprentice.

Got a few things accomplished. Doesn't look like much, but its on its way.

Tacked some rod to stabilize the grill while we work the hood and side panels.

Hinge rods were stubborn. Nothing a cut-off wheel can't fix. I cut the hinge apart to get the hood and side panel separated
    [IMG]

We than took some snips and "fit" the hood to the cowl, leaving it tight for final fitment later on.

Its unbelievable how similar the contour of the hood matches with the cowl, considering they are two complete different brands, the hood is off a luxury coupe and the cowl being off a commercial truck, and then the two parts being 4 years apart. Crazy!

Ray and I than brought out the template paper and went over different ideas for the side panels. I outlined the side panel shape in red. The side panels will be fixed to the body and grill. And the hood will turn into one piece held on by Zeus fasteners (if this is era correct- pre '60. Anyone know when Zeus style fasteners came into existence?) I will be keeping some of the vent treatment on the hood sides, but not sure how much yet. The initial plan was to keep only the top row, because having all of it looked to heavy. And I am definitely keeping the front portion of the vents.

    Style 1

    Style 2

    Style 3
    [IMG]

Quick photo-chops to give a better understanding of the vents and side panels(very quick)
    Style 1
    [IMG]

    Style 3
I'm digging this look because it holds true to the "Bonneville look" less space for air to get in
    [IMG]

And what Ray mocked up after I left. Loving the pipes!

I'll be coming up with a conclusion for next week.

Let me know what you guys think.

Looks great! I am already starting a build in my head for when all the others are done. I am starting to think I need a roadster here in Cali;)

Here is what I found real quick on Dzus fasteners. http://www.dfcis.com/history.html

im really digging style 3 with the last pic of the exposed exaust...then again I think that might be too conservative....it is like you say a more bonneville look and I really love it!, reminds me of the barney navarro roadster in a wierd way, but hell, the whole car is a different aproach. its a side pannel, if you get board of one you can always make a new one...hell, make all 3 and interchange them like tires and wheel combos....either way, looks amazing great work...looking forward to more pics!

  17. Subscribed. I love this type of build - instead of throwing money and the "right" parts at a bellybutton project, this combines a real eye for proper design, proportion, etc. with assorted panels that complement one another and contribute to the overall flow of the piece. I can see this as a very successful design and am really enjoying the progress.

I like that idea, that way I don't have to make a decision! haha

Thanks again guys for all of the kind words. I'm back down in Boston (still have other classes unfortunately ) so there won't be as many updates till the weekend. I have a final design presentation on Thursday, so i'll be working on getting that together. I'll post some pics of that presentation when i get it finalized.
