not! After putting up the 2 grilles on the car, i am having second thoughts about running the '42 ford grille as was on Gil Ayalas. So ,before i start slicing up the front end,I am posting up the pics of the '42 ford grille, and the '42 chevy grille i am leaning towards. I am asking my HAMB buddies to step up and give me their HONEST opinion.Which ever grille i end up using, will be set up in a frenched(sunkin) in cavity,as opposed to being mounted flush with the face of the front end.So tell me what you think.

1942 Ford grille on this one... go as close to what Gil Ayala used to drive.

There are not many Ayala historic custom cars left today... some that are where later redone by Barris and are restored back to the Barris Configuration.... so we do need more Ayala influences to see up close...
So yes definitely the 1942 Ford grille in your great Ford project.... Keep the Ayala style alive!!!

It really looks great in there!!!

I'm voting for Ayala, as well. For 1, it's DIFFERENT! Traditional, yet not over used, almost never seen, in fact.
2 is the "homage" to the late, great Ayala bros, who deserve more recognition and respect.

the chev grille will always say "chev grille", the ford grille without the surround looks less identifiable, hence more 'custom' as a 'waterfall' effect.

I vote for the Ford - there's a reason Ayala used it....that should be your reasoning also.

I like the Chevy grille better on it's own but I think it'll look really awkward tunneled into an opening. The pictures above with the '42 grille in the custom opening look really good. If the grille is going to be sunk into an opening I think you'd have to use the Ford grille. The Chevy grille sunk into the car will just look like the hood has an overbite.

  16. I think it would help if you were to get some photoshop help here as well. Right now you've got two photos of poorly fit grilles sitting in an old front end. Get a better picture of the finished product and the decision would be easier.

I'd take rikster's advice, but I'm already biased.

I love the Chevy grille in there, for its continual width. The trimmed '42 looks like someone boxed in 3/4 of a horizontal short stack!
Main reason I say this is there was a '46-'48 on the HAMB with a Chevy grille. Please look for the pic before repeating what looks to be a molded-in front blank with a die-grinder cutout filled with many bars.

Until I saw Riksters pics I was with the chev, as I say that was before the pics. Stick to the plan my man.

Thanks for all your input fellas,i will stick to the plan and go with the '42 ford grille. It appears i will have to add a section of grille to each half to acheive the wider look as in the pictures. Will post pics when i get it all in primer.
