I want to build a scale model of my Riviera, so I got the AMT/ERTL version, but I don't like it. I was hoping to get a kit with more detail, I.E. rear suspension and exhaust not molded to the frame. I don't have the patience or skill to scratch build all that stuff. Any ideas? I didn't see anything with a Google search.
Richard, Unfortunately, the AMT Riv is the only one out there, BUT there ARE some other X frame models that offer more ch***is detail and could be used to kitbash a better Riviera (like AMT's 62 Chevrolet, etc). Best of luck!
The Riv has it's own frame, not shared with other cars. Still, it may be close enough. It's just gonna sit on a shelf anyway.
you could pick up a nice diecast model, its a little more expensive (about $50) but most are very detailed.
I was thinking about kit bashing the AMT's 66 Ch***is with the 'old '65s body. I have done this with the '69 Riviera but haven't seen how much work it would take to do the '65. It seems it should be possible tho. The '66 is such a fantastic and well executed kit it's worth looking into. Here ya go. I test fitted the ch***is from the '66 kit. A bit of shaving on the wheel wells would be necessary and the wheel base is slightly longer, about 1/16th of an inch in front. A cut in the mid section of the frame would solve that. The rear end is a bit wide with the tires in place but a bit of messing around could remedy that. The Nail head in this kit has a dual quad manifold and the level of detail is sick.
