I'm up late slapping together an ad for Billetproof Detroit that will appear in Rolls & Pleats. I'm a little punch drunk after doing basically the same thing all day at work too. I need some other eyes to take a look at it. What do you think?

Dunno if you care or if you can do it, overall it's a fantastic piece, but I would maybe put holes in the visor and create a line on that grillshell where you would mold the two pieces together......just seems like there is too much of a white space there, like you forgot something. Like I said that's my .02 and it's what I'd do if the ad was sitting here in front of me next to a black pen.

If that car isn't going to be there(at the show) I would change it. I have seen it in a lot of norcal show coverage. Is it a featured car at bp detroit?

  6. Looks good. The only thing I noticed is that the rip at the bottom with the info below it kind of looks like an afterthought.

  17. I like the older style flyers you use to do before you went gold chain

  18. That's pretty cool... but why not put an east coast car on the ad? The one on there is that green west coast car with all the Webers.

I vote for one of Bleed's cars...

If you dont mind my input, I'd maybe re-work this area a bit?

    Looks good Kirk!

The only thing I would change is moving your background ad over to the right. Right now that border rule from the ad is running tangent to alot of your elements. It's distracting visually, IMO. Split the difference in space at the tire and the edge of the ad with the top corner bleeding off at the upper right.

    great ad.

    I'm a graphic designer myself.

I'm not gonna pick on the car or anything like that. And I know what it's like to stare at one thing for hours on end.

Small small thing that quite honestly should make a world of difference in the way your eyes follow things... the black box. The right edge of it is cut at a too sharp an angle. If you look at the "I" in MI and the line of the paper...much shallower angle. Match the angle of the black box edge with the "I" or the edge of the paper..the thin black line...one or the other. Having 3 angle there is too much....Either that or run the black box over the edge of the paper line to break the angles.

maybe beef up the US map buy about 6% to give Billetproof some room.

Beyond that...great design bro. I'd be proud to see it in a mag if it was mine.....

Looks good Kirk...but I do agree with Django's comment. If you are building it in photoshop, perhaps try putting the illustrator art layer on multiply. It will knock out the white of the car and the background ad will read through. May have to adjust some of the type however for legibility. Tought it might look like your ad was printed right on top of the yellow page listing. If it looks like ***...just say it was Bumpstick's suggestion or something.

Looks awesome kirk, especially after whizzerick added his little touch to the top:) He's has great ideas for design!
The hotrod illustration choice doesn't really matter as long as it hasn't been used before in another ad and if it looks cool and that one seems to look fine.

    Kirk,

Floating the elements over an old JC Whitney page = brilliant.

Your stuff always looks deceptively simple yet bold & beautiful.

I'm not prone to kissing a lot of ***, but you are a graphic design god in my opinion.

I've been a graphic designer for 20 years, and I'd be damn proud to crank out some of the stuff I've seen from you.

WOW Cleatus, thanks! I feel like a hack when I see some of the stuff on the HAMB.

Thanks for all the input guys. Unfortunately the original post was like two weeks ago so the ad is long gone. Obviously we have some great graphic designers on here. Most of the comments were spot-on and I wish I'd have been able to affect the design with some of them. It's nice to have new eyes look at stuff, I think you get the best end product that way. That's the way I have run each of the art departments I've headed.

When I have a designer opening at GG I'll post an ad on here first, if you are willing to come to the dark side (heavy on the sarcasm).
