Projects Progress? Sort of. My 53 Dodge

Found a little time to work on my car recently, trying to at least get it one color and get some of the big trim holes filled for a friends wedding. I can't say I'm proud of my work,(yet) but I've never done anything like this before so I'm learning as I go.

 

That's the best way to learn. It's coming along well. Good choice keeping the hood ornament; it's too cool to remove and fill.

 

The hood ornament is cool, but i've been trying to come up with somewhere else to use it on the car because I like the hood smooth. All along I've been saying I was gonna keep it up there but after removing it to sand and prime, i liked it gone. Any ideas on what i could do with it to keep it a part of the car but move it off the hood?

Most of us did it the same way, learn as you go. I have been doing this a long time and still find new or better ways on my builds. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. Car is lookin' good. Keep up the good work.

 

A 53 Dodge?? That was my first attempt at Kustomizing. This was my old Dodge 1998 ish..It came with a baby hemi. Sold it a long time ago.

 

Looking good from here! I'm also still learning every day.

 

That is not a bad idea. I'm gonna have to think about that.
Without being lower and more 'custom' I think the wheelcovers might be too much. I think they make it look like it sits higher for some reason.

Scott, this car caught my eye on the Mo Doors = Mo Fun thread. I love '53 and '54 MoPars, Dodges in particular. Question: Is that gray primer, or blue? In some shots it looks blue.

Oh, and if you're going to remove the hood ornament, I think you should trim it down and use it as a shift knob.

Not sure if you'll see this response or not but the car is in gray primer. Must be the light in some of the photos that looks a little blue.

BTW, just ordered new king pins, bearing and all 6 wheel cylinders to stash away for some winter time 'therapy'.

Ah well, the blue-gray color on my screen stuck in my head, and makes me want to paint my Falcon that color. I'm thinking of Ace "Harbor Blue".

Cool car, I think the lines on the '53 and '54 Mopars are just about perfect.

Thanks man. It's my first car project ever and I love working on it.
I didn't seek out a 53 dodge but when I saw the car and the price I remember thinking "hmm, I think this will work". Now that I've had it a while, I like it.
