I have to disagree too.I used to own a factory built with the build sheet to prove it 71 3/4 ton 4 speed 4X4 with a 402. had A/C and i believe it was called a longhorn package but could be wrong about that

Here is a short you tube clip of an Australian Motor racing Legend "Stormin" Norman Beechey.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TVFTyvgKF0

The clip is from 1999 and is a starting point only.

The car, 1962 Chev, was imported to Australia, as a new vehicle, initially for circuit racing. The car had a 409 cu. in. with manual gearbox. It was 4 door pillarless, as 4 doors were popular in Australia. It had brocade trim, because that would be more appealing when the car was sold off as a road car after it's racing duties ended.

It was/is a rare car. Ordered to be a compe***ive race car but also with an eye on resale value after a bit of time on the track.

PS After an on-track incident involving some rear end damage, the car appeared at its next meeting with a tow-bar fitted.

  11. fwiw, on the '50s Plymouth Hemi debate:

Buddy has a mud truck that has a big Dodge M53 military 4x4 ch***is under it. The body's been changed out to a later Ford cab and Chevy bed. The motor? It looks like a Dodge Hemi. But: The serial number on the top of the block decodes to '55 Plymouth, either a 241 or 259 V8.

Now I ***ume someone put the Dodge Hemi heads on it back in the day.... but who really knows at this point? The 259 was a Plymouth-only displacement, making it even more oddball.

For the most part up to around the 1980s you could order up from a dealer whatever you wanted that they could bolt together, either factory, or at the dealer, if you had the bucks. It might not decode out to be exactly what it appears to be - as mentioned with the whole GTO wagon debate, it might be a GTO wagon but the VIN won't show it because the body code will be different - but it will be what you wanted and will be a factory build.

Well that’s was a long time ago not sure I remember about the color of the Chevy though I am sure he showed me some pictures of it. I went to high school with his younger brother who lived down the street from me and I hung around with a lot. I had finished aircraft mech. school and got my license there were no jobs anywhere in aircraft field here so we started our shop in that summer of 1969. He was also working already as a welder at Keith Black before that building Headers and oil pans. I ran the shop full time and he worked in his spare time. So was probably before 69 looks like it could have been in that same time frame as you were there. His name was Mike Hubbler (if I am spelling the name right). He also drove a med blue Vet think was a 58 or 59 it had the duel headlights 327 4 speed he might have had that up there too.

    CONNMAN,

Great pictures I do like seeing shots from the old drag races! Looks like they have lots of room up there. I have mostly been a Ford guy but did have an old 55 Chevy that was fun and also helped lots of my buddy’s build them too. My 55 had a 57 Vet dual quad engine bored out to a 301 30/30 cam close ratio three speed broke a few axles with it. Miss those racing days so am colecting parts now to rebuild my old 63 Fairlane drag car so can try it one more time.

    CONNMAN,

Yeah it was weird that the pictures you posted from AK brought that memory back. I closed down the shop in 70 when I left for the Army I think only seen him one time after got out in 72. So can't verify much more unless something else sparks the old brain. Interesting about your 54 F100 you must have slid the engine back to be running gas? I took over my dad's 56 F100 started racing in summer 66 it was mostly stock orig. light blue paint. I swapped in a 352 inceptor and auto was all cheap stuff but was a quick combo think they ran me in D/MP. Started building a 41 Willy's for A/Gas summer of 67. I keep changing engine combos form a 390 to several 427's as could afford the parts was close to being done so entered it for the 70 winternationals was not able to finish it in time to go.

Yeah there is something strange that’s going on with my computer ever since I did a recent software upgrade used to be able to all those things before. Maybe have to start over with a fresh drive and reload OS might also be time to just replace the MB it has a reported problem using the XP & SPIII is getting old like me and am getting tired of fixing it.

Ok, I'll play. Uncle ordered a 71 Galaxy 2dr HT with a 3 on the tree. Had to hit 3 dealers to get one to do it, even though that was the "standard" trans for the stripped down cars. Another uncle tried for 427 hi-riser in his 63 1/2 fastback but had to finally settle for a mid-riser. Still got him a glovebox full of tickets with it. Employers son got a 68 GTO with a floor shift 3spd. Good friend recently got a hold of a 63 Country Squire wagon with leather buckets, 390 4bbl, and 4spd. Silver grey with red interior and woodgrain sides. Loved it. I coudn't afford it when he sold it and it took all of 1 day for it to be gone. There was 1 34 Packard rumble seat coupe built with a trunk instead of a rumble seat but still retained the golf door.

Not true on the "no big block 4x4 '67-'72 GM truck. There were, and are, quite a few around. In 1977, my Dad took a '71 396 4x4 LWB Chevy on trade. It was orange/white, had the black/white houndstooth interior, automatic, and was a 1/2-ton with a camper shell. It was quite a rig!

Oddities I have seen. 1979 Olds Omega 4 door all standard granny car except for the factory 4 speed on the floor. Lady said she ordered it because her son just turned 16 and got his license and she was a single mom so she had to throw a cool factor in. Similar to the one here:
    http://wikicars.org/en/Oldsmobile_Omega
Then in a Hot Rod mag I saw where a guy bought new in I believe 70 a new Vista Cruiser with a 442 W30 Package and 4 speed. Had the twin snorkel hood and High Compression 455 and plastic fender wells and all the goodies.
    Similar to this one:
    http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MzNLFWC8c...ARQ/A5PHlxYDiXk/s400/70-Vista-Cruiser-W30.gif
    http://www.cruisinbruce.com/sitebui...ingham_-_1970_4-4-2_Vista_Cruiser-450x331.jpg
Apparently not as scarce as I thought lol.

    The first factory 454 4x4s for 73-87 was the 77 K30.
