So I,ve been working on scoring a 57 ford short wide bed,big window 292, 3 gear truck that's been sitting under a carport since 96. I have a handshake deal at $2000,00. Now here's the delima someone in the 'hood is hounding me to buy a '63 short bed unibody, small window,6cyl. 4 speed for less money and it does run and drive. Help me out here, please!

Since when did a truck have a unibody? And if you been hounding this guy sinve 96 to buy this truck and he finally breaks down and decides to sell it and you back out, then thats just screwed up. Just recently had that done to me. Some dudes been stopping here every 2 weeks wanting my cutl***. I finally said sure he agreed then backed out. Dont be a putts!

I think I'd prefer the '57 as far as looks go. In addition, I believe it's a one year only design. That's good if you want something different, but can be a pain if you have to buy some of the year specific parts. And, it having sat for 14 years means there's going to be alot of work I'd imagine- every vehicle I've bought that sat for more than a couple years required going through the brakes and usually the fuel system at the least, and there were normally other small issues that crop up. Bottom line is, which truck lights your fire? If you like both equally, I'd go with the one in the best shape.

Buy 'em both if you can, take some time to figure out which one trips yer trigger the most, flip the other one. I agree, it's kinda screwed if you back out on the 57 deal.

On the Ford pickups for 1961-'63 the integral cab and bed was available...sorta like a unibody, still had a frame though.

For me a Handshake deal, is a Handshake deal, and a man is only good as his word, and a Handshake should be as good as his word..... just my two cents.

57's rule...but so do Unibody's. I'd go with the '57 though, much rarer these days, plus it's got a Y-Block.

I am of no help,I love both of the body-styles just as much as the other.

However...I am kinda partial to the unibody as that`s what I have now.....

I had a big window short bed 61 unibody a few years back, i liked it alot but it had severall rust out prone areas. The 57 grille is a cool one for sure, plus you made the deal, my 2 cents.

fomocopower, really dig your truck nice wheels and stance.

  24. Yeah, you shouldn't be asking. Someone once did that to me regarding a house and shop. I went thru four years of hell to get it back. Honour your handshake, but buy the other truck too.

no such thing as a handshake "deal" there are only cash and carry deals. the rest is just talk. the handshake comes after the guy counts your money.

A deal is a deal. If it was "I just lost my job" or "My dog just had to have an emergency operation" or something, that's different, and I'm sure the guy would understand. And if he didn't, then f'im.

But if it's "I saw a cooler truck," then I think you gotta stick to your word. That'd be the honorable thing to do.

The manly thing to do would buy the '57 for two grand agreed-upon price, then knock the other guy down as absolutely low as you can and get the unibody. Money is tight as hell everywhere, but if you can s****e up the $1500 or whatever for the uni, those are pretty cool trucks.
Unless it's rusty. Then run away.

If I had to choose one, it'd be the '57.
