Well today started off by me going to a buddy of mine's uncles place to get some 22.5 semi wheels to put on my daily driver dually and ended up being a shopping spree for me. After loading the wheels the guy guy noticed some ofthe hotrod stuff tattooed on my arm and asked if I liked old cars....Well hell yeah. He said" come over here I got something you may like'' He showed me a 1950 Ford that he has had sitting in the barn for several years. He pulled it out and had all of the body work done to it 4 years ago and has not touched it since. From what I can see the car's body is as straight as an arrow and in grey primer. The interior is full of parts and pieces that go to the car and it has the motor partially dis***embled. It does have a clear ***le to it also. I was wondering what is this car worth as is??? I also scored a bad *** Sinclair sign. It is plastic 3 demensions and two sided and lights up in the middle. I have no pictures of it yet but would anyone have a guess of its vintage?
The Ford is a sedan and is cool the Sinclair sign sounds late 60's to me. $350 for the sign? Maybe- post a pic.
You have hotrod stuff on your arm and don't know what that car is worth? Do some research instead of asking us to do it for you.
Straight as an arrow, with semi tires leaning aginst it. What else has he propped on it. My god, he has weeds growing inside his shed. The car has seen 4 years of natures elements. Is THIS a CAR you really want to pour all your money and time into for the next few years. Think about that for a while.
Old Cars Price Guide thinks it's worth $2750 in that condition, deduct 5% for 6-cyl motor. Whether it would sell for that, who knows, shoebox Fords are pretty common and the guy who really wants a nice one can usually find it cheap without a lot of difficulty, even convertibles.
Yeah I have hot rod stuff on my arm. No 1950 ford stuff on my arm though. I mainly deal with 20s and 30s stuff. I had a guess at what the car was worth from past cl***ified references but I was looking for some other opinions. the car is also a v8 model and still has all of the motor parts and I was told a few speed parts with it.
you have to research it? you need to do a research on manners, and get out of in front of a computer more.
Yea that's called hot rodding. My current project set out in a field for 7 years that I know of. its not like buying a Civic. No project is worth more than a grand and some are worth a lot less than that. If you really like it and are looking for a project it worth whatever you give for it.
shoeboxes aren't that rare in Texas, I see em all the time for sale for around 1,500-2,500, running and driving. They are usually more-doors though. If you could pick it up for 800 or so, I'd say go for it. Looks like a nice solid builder. I wouldn't go much higher though, unless it's got some really nice parts with it. Any other mods done to it? i've looked at half a dozen shoeboxes with SBC's in em. It's a fairly common swap, but I wouldn't be caught dead with one under the hood of my Ford.
Wow. I better post quick before this thread gets closed. Lots of angry people out there today. Congrats on that find! The only thing I have to say is because its on the dirt, take a good look under the car and make sure things aren't too rusty. Aside from that its a great start.
The car is only worth what it is worth to you and that may vary if you are looking to build it or flip it. It looks like a pretty nice builder that has most of the body work done if it is done right. It still depends on what is under the body work and how the rest of it looks. Floor boards good? trunk and the rest of the metal good? Enough engine pieces to build from or ?? Guys in Minnesota might be all over it for 2k but guys in Texas might expect to drive it home, wash it and head to cruise night for that price so you really need to find out what the going price for something like that is in Texas.
Things sure must be a heck of a lot different in Texas than they are in WV. Around here a car like that would be in the $2500 - $3500 range if it is clean underneath and the body is as straight as it looks and not all full of filler. I think it would be a great start to any shoebox build. I am used to spending the first half of my builds patching and replacing rust.
That '50 Ford is a cool ' It's definitely a 'mid-50's-early-60's style 'mild custom' "period" piece. It looks a like the front fenders and grill opening have been modified to take an early-50's Chevy or maybe Olds grill. What it's worth depends entirely on how bad you want it, but just as a rough 'guesstimate' - and depending on the actual condition and what all is there for parts and stuff, I'd 'guess' anywhere between $1000 and $2500. You know, as read some of these strings, I can't help but want to find some of your parents and slap them for raising a tools. If you really wanna talk ****, go be rapper or something. Nobody gives f'n care about your opinion on tattoos, what a person should or shouldn't know. Answer dudes question or just STFU. Your making the house look bad by just standing there with your fly open, as the rest of us laugh......
My advice: The car is worth what you are willing to pay for it. If you want it, buy it and **** what everybody else thinks about any part of the entire transaction. Really ain't none of their business anyway.
The tattoos led me to this car, the sign. My chance to buy 12 model As for 50 dollars a piece and my Model T coupe. I dont care what any of you say about that. I am happy with them. And I was only asking simple questions. This car is really straight and solid. it has all of the parts to it to be a complete car. the floor needs some work. I plan to bring the car home because to me the price is right. I am stacked to the roof with other projects so this car may very well be for sale Would anyone be interested. I would be interested in doing parts trades...
I had met a guy a while back who had one that was very similar and the only difference was that he had not had all of the body work done. He was asking 1000 bucks. Thats what he was ASKING I don't know what he actually got. Now this car I looked it over pretty well and this thing is really straight. It was done by a very reputable body man in our area. The same guy who did the paint and body on my 50 fleetline and this guy is not a big fan of bondo. I am not sure of what is under the primer of this shoebox but this is a really good start to a project. It is just really dusty in the pictures. the gl*** is all there and still good along with all the trim and bumbers and whatnot. The car is full of parts that go with it except the motor sits under a different shed and the owner told me it has a few speed parts. All that I saw as a dual carb intake for a flathead that was to the car.
remember when the HAMB was useful ????? we used help each other on here , now its all about bashing someone
By '07 it was kinder and gentler. Bashing (actually called flaming) back in the day was a dailey occurence and I guess it was worse before I joined. Ah those were the days. Well ya can't go back and it was hindering growth.

There are some deals to be found around here for sure. Problem is that even though that car looks bone straight..you never know. My 1949 Plymouth looked perfect. Just like that one, except with oxidized paint. Got it home and started trying to sand of some of the paint and started hitting huge bondo patches. They weren't filling in dents but rusted out holes. To look at it, you'd never have known. It was a hack job and a half, but a DAMN good one. Usually the deals to be had aren't the one's advertised. If they're advertizing it, chances are they have some delusional idea as to value. If it's just been sitting in their back yard or shed, you can usually get stuff pretty cheap. Especially in the smaller towns that are out in the middle of nowehere.
