I don't think the "Canada exception" applys to these engines. Domestically they were produced only thru the '51 model year; I never heard of a Canadian version. Anybody interested in overhauling one should contact Bob Selzam at his business in Jackson, NJ. It's known as Half Ton Fun and the phone is 762-928-9421. I've bought all my parts from him for a recent rebuild. I believe he is significantly less expensive than Kanter and all of his stuff is either NOS or NORS.
Stock parts are available, speed parts scarce and costly. This engine will surprise you, especially with the overdrive transmission. Drove one as a kid with headers, 4 barrell, Isky cam, Mallory ignition, and it would go quite well. Click it into second gear overdrive and it would pull strong till 90 mph effortlessly. Wouldn't beat a new Chevy v-8, but I walked away from my brothers brand new 58 Ford stick. Here is a picture of the car in the 58 Detroit Autorama. Can you dig the sidepipes and the flames on the skirts.
Thanks for the upper links , i have now both , the small block 60hp and bigblock linc , but i sold my normal flathead ,because everyone has those lying around , right? I´m using allso the original overdrive transmission ,it´s workin perfectly and now i can use open drivehaft and reliable rearend in my roadster. AVG
You sure? According to this it was a '48 Lincoln V12. http://www.lincoln-club.org/hot-rod-lincoln.html Bob
Here's a picture of my 337 sitting in a 52 Ford F6 that I'm in the process of building. Hillbilly Werewolf sold me this motor a couple years ago on the HAMB. It's a Lincoln 337 vs. the 337 ford truck motor. There's a few differences once you tear into one. The motor sounds sweet running through dual exhausts to Smithy mufflers.
I just had Bob Bendtsen (Transmission Adapters) supply me with the story behind his modified fuel injected 337 Lincoln. I spotted it on ebay and (because I also have one) it got my attention so I asked him for a story as well as pics for my new hot rod blog. http://www.hotrodstreet.com/337ci-lincoln-flathead-v8-big-block-flathead/
OLDBEET...if you were THAT close to Charlie, you'd know his car had a Lincoln V12 flathead in it....get a copy of the original song (that he wrote) and listen to it. ...got twelve cylinders and uses 'em all.... Plus, I've seen the car many times, being raised around Lewiston/Clarkston and being an early hotrodder myself. dj
