just picked up this 50 pickemup and trying to figure out the puzzle someone built... its a 5 lug rear end just cant figure out what it may have come out of. and this is a horrible pic but its leaking what i'm guessing is gear oil by the carrier bearing of the drive shaft, its got a closed driveline on a 4 on the floor, not sure if its stock as it also has the lever for the 3 on the tree. thanks in advance. if i get the guts i'll be swapping the 216 for a 235 soon, there is some good reading here that i feel comfortable i can pull it off hehe.
It looks like a GM 10 bolt from a coil sprung car to me. I'm sure others can give you the exact details, but it should be open drive and there should be an ID code stamped on top of the tube on the left side.
looks like the same rearend under my 50 fleetline was told mine was out of a camaro when i bought it but thats also coming from a guy that had it in a pile with around 8 other rearends. guessing but thought mine was out of the 80 style camaros judging from my buddys iroc

I agree it looks like a Chevelle 10 bolt ( ears on the center part of the housing ) but the closed driveline has me confused. The Chevelle had a open driveline. Maybe someone figured out a " Closed " conversion ???
Could be Chevelle,GTO, definitly a 10 bolt GM coil spring car.Have one built just like it except 12 bolt under my 66 GTO
. Buick had a closed driveline at least as late as 1960. The 1960 Buick Electra had a Torque Tube driveline, full coil suspension, and K-braced frame. It looks like your rear end has coil spring pads just inside the parallel leaf spring pads. Dick
lol, yea the open/close driveline had my father inlaw confused too, the tranny which is a 4 on the floor is closed and the rear end is open, go figure. gotta change the tranny anyways as it sounds funky when i try to get some speed going.
The 3/4 tons of that era had a short closed section the center bearing then open to the rear axle. Who knows what GM was thinking there !!
