Hey all.The 39 is coming along with all rust cut out and repaired. The polly is nearing the final stages of full rebuild.Jag xj6 front and rear grafted in with mounts for polly and box.Got a nice grind done on the original cam giving 440 lift and sourced NOS + 30 pistons and brand new valves here in NZ.A great find and surprise, thanks HAMB. The carters on the dual four intake are rebuildable but at a huge cost as the pistons and most moving parts are seized. So my question to all the wise out there is what should I use,Hollys?Anyone had good HP and torque with a particular combo.?Still after a A833 all you Kiwis out there.Cheers all and thanks thus far for build info.Justin
That sounds like an awesome car you are putting together! As for carbs, I would put a pair of carter AFBs or Edelbrocks on there, two 500's would be the best bet. The AFB/Eddie carbs work very well in a dual quad format and are pretty easy to tune. I don't think you will have room for Holleys without turning them sideways anyway. We need pictures of this thing! Cheers mate!
Bingo on that! If you open up the bore holes an Edelbrock drops right on, or longer studs & the adaptor plate to match bores.
I have a pair of Carter Comp Series 500's on my 400 - the dual quad set one choke one no choke. I agree on the soul part, I think I need to unpaint them though . . .
The old saying that was beat to death in the 80"s, " Yea, thats the ticket", and ditto on losing the paint. No offense. Thanks for sharing the pic!!
Awsome fellow rodders. So a couple of 500 AFBs sound like the go.How available are these and what model No,s should I be looking for? Thanks
Carter was bought by Edelbrock years ago, thier is based on the Carters. You'll have to look @ swap meets, EBay, Carb rebuilders, ect for Carters. @ 1 point they made pairs of 400 CFM AFBs for 2X4 setups.
