I have a Tig welder with a water cooled torch set up-

Can I run an air cooled torch?

    what are the benifits/ drawbacks...

I need to buy a new watercooler/used water cooler tank/pump etc if anyone has one they could sell me let me know-

For now im just looking at my options

Aircooled is fine for lower amperages, and intermitant use.

It depends on what you are going to weld with it,you could use an regular one for sheetmetal or tacking & it won't get too hot,but if your going to tig, heliarc anything for more than a few minets at a time, get the watercooled setup because the torch will stay cool, the aircooled one will get so damn hot you can't hold on to it even with gloves for very long.

  4. yes i think you can run an air cooled torch, linconelectric sells kits for air cooled torches (part# K2413, K 2266-1, K2265-1), but it also matters if you are using a modual to run the water cooled or if the machine came set up with a water cooled torch. but i am not sure if i'm right.

ok the machine came with a setup thats controled on the machine, it has a water in water out and its all controled at the pedal-

ill just try and get a used one and stick with water-
it welds AWESOME I just got done welding 1/4 plate and it'll burn right though it like sheetmetal if you floor it.

  6. I found another advantage to a water-cooled torch. The cable is lighter (because it is also cooled) which allows for better physical control of the torch when working in odd positions. It has a lighter feel. The heavier-cabled air-cooled torch always seemed kinda clunky to me.

you could just run tap water through the torch
also just something to think about you could make your own with a pump and a holding tank about 3 to 5 gallons
would take a good 2 hrs before the water ever got warm

Johnny Fast is right, the lighter the torch is the more manageable it is. If you have a water inlet and outlet you can adapt a hose fitting right up to it and run direct line pressure. If it has those hookups it has a solonoid that shuts the water off when the pedel is not engaged. Just run a hose outside for drainage. What kinda machine did you get??? You will love the water cooled set up so you definately want to run with that!!!

I see you already bid on the one on ebay. If it gets to expensive you can always use an old water fountain cooler. It can be set up to circulate the same water.

i did the buy it now but mine was $235. i bought two from him (1 for a buddy) and he took a little off the price 5 or 10 bucks. he sells a lot of them, check his past sells. from his past sells they go for 210ish to about 285ish. if you have any questions about them, ask away i'll try to answer them.

  19. TUCK- Don't run the water cooled torch without water. It'll melt the jacket on the inside of the power cable and **** it up.

You can run an air cooled torch, no problem.

I made a cooler with nothing more than a 5-gal pail and a Pony pump. All you need is circulation. If you ever weld long enough to get 5 gallons of anti-freeze and water that hot, I'll kiss your furry ass.
You're supposed to use soluable oil and water, but my shop doesn't stay heated all winter.

I've only used it for a few short sessions- its all set up with the "tap water" method but that wont fly I dont have a good drain...

I'm so damn happy to have a tig welder

    no sparks
    no smoke
    bright light
    bitchin welds

    bad ass!
