I am boxig a 29/Mod.A frame. I would like to know if the front cross member (new) is
welded 90 degreas to the top of the frame or is it weldedwith a slight angle to the top of the frame. If it is. What angle is it.
    Thanks, Bill G

PS I hope this is the right place to post this.

Bill, the front cross member is usually leaned back around 5 degrees in relation to the frame though this can vary depending on the build.Measurement is taken at the centre of the cross member.
If you're new to frame building,I highly recomend the book 'How To Build Hot Rod Chassis' by Tex Smith. It gives all the basic info to set up the frame, axles, suspension etc.In addition there's diagrams of many early Ford frames, including Model A.
    Cheers,

  3. Bill, most builders tilt them back or down in the rear 6 or 7 degrees. This is Positive caster. Some like 5, some will tell you as high as 8. Just keep in mind-rubber rake. Example, if you have your frame on a table level, weld in your x-member at 7, and then your final frame rake with big tires in rear and lil ones up front, you might end up with only 3 degrees positive caster and that wont be enough. Depending on your front end components, and design, you might have a few degrees adjustability. I dont know that from the info you gave. Hope that helps.
