just wanted to remind everyone to take it easy when shoveling driveways, sidewalks etc.. got a call today from my uncle saying that my dad had a heart attack while shoveling snow. apparently, he came in complaining that he wasn't feeling too well, had a bite to eat, warmed up for a few and went back outside to finish the driveway. shortly after heading back outside, he went back inside, and collapsed. my stepmom took his blood pressure and called the ambulance. (fortunately, the fire dept, and ambulance station is directly across the street from his house.) he is awake and talking now, and feeling better, but it was quite a shock to receive that phone call. from what my wife says, shoveling snow for 10 minutes, is the equivalent of an hour of aerobic excercise. anyways, take it easy if shoveling snow, and if your parents are still around, let'em know ya love them. sorry for the off-topic-ness.
glad to here he is doing better! Hope he can get home soon! I was out there for a few min today when it was still snowing hard and i said screw this. Its light fluffy snow this time but it just sucks! bryan
Kritz...hope your dad is Ok....I've got an 8 HP dual stage snowblower you can have if he wants one...come on up anytime.
Kritz, Hope your dad comes out of this OK. The statistics of shoveling snow and heart attacks would really shock you. It happens all of the time. Tell him to take it easy and rest. The snow will still be there to be shoveled tomorrow or by someone else. Frank
So sorry to hear all of this Kritz! He'll pull through just fine My dad had to have a stent put in 5 days before our wedding, and he was up dancing around by then It's amazing what they can do these days with modern technology - look at Frank! Best wishes! Kris
I had a heart attack and stent installed last May 27th..... 50 years old............ I figure it this way......... God put that snow out there........ Gad can just take it away I have a Kubota that I shovel with now
just got back from the hospital visiting with my dad...he's in good spirits, cracking jokes and harassing nurses. he's transferring to sparrow hospital in lansing tomorrow morning to have some tests done and to see what they need to do for him now. he says he feels remarkably well aside from what happened. looks like this will be the kick in the ass to finally quit smoking...heart desease, and heart attacks= BAD thanks for all the kind words, my pops appreciates them too.
Talked to Chris on his way to see the old man. Glad to here he's all right. Now, Frank, get out there and shovel!!
on a more on topic note, i finally had a chance to take an updated look at the 50 chevy sedan delivery that my dad and i picked up. never even noticed that the antenna is frenched!!!... it's in realy nice shape, gonna need some work, but it will give us something to work on once the old man is feeling better.
Good to hear your dad is doing much better Kritz.......also good to hear he's going to kick the smoking habit.......best wishes on a speedy recovery for your dad!!
Hey man I heard about that.... I guess that's a legitemite excuse to miss my birthday party. Tell him I hope everything works out all right!
actually, my dad never smoked...this is MY kick in the ass to quit smoking. steve, sorry i missed the birthday par-tay...family's gotta come first. you understand i'm sure. i'm kinda dissappointed that i missed the premier of the mr. t movie though!!!
Glad to hear your dad's going to be OK. I like him alot and I'm looking forward to seeing him alive and well in March. Please either take Hatch up on his offer of the snowblower or purchase a new one for him as a gift. Anyone who lives where it snows should own one. Just like a lawn mower, it's a necessity, not a luxury. and yes, YOU should quit smoking.
Chris, glad to hear your dad is doing better. I recently turned 54, I'm out of shape and over weight, so I really bundle up and take it real easy when I go out and watch my wife shovel.
apparently my dad has a snow blower, but prefers to do things the "old fashioned way"...i don't think he will be doing any shoveling from here on out. like the old saying goes, work smarter not harder. i guess when ya think about everything, a shoveled driveway really isn't that important!!
I didn't click on this thread because...well...not exactly alot of snow down here for me to worry about. I hope your dad is doin well, Kritz.

Chris: Glad to hear your Dad is doing all right;those little,"wake-up" calls can actually be pretty beneficial at times.I was doing a little shoveling after the first storm here to clear a path to the shop so I could get my lawn tractor w/plow out to do the driveway.WAKE Up CALL!My heart is in good shape but unfortunately my back isn't.I've been more or less grounded since then and have left the snow clearing duties to my oldest son and his friends who do it the,"right"way:with a plow! And that other wake up call?DO IT NOW!And when you've successfully kicked the habit let me in on the secret so I can jump all over my kids(all 3 of them)who smoke! I'll turn 61 tomorrow and I intend to live a LONG life if only because my 92 year old aunt tells me that I have to.She was up until last fall still mowing 5 acres of grass weekly and my other aunt who lives in SLC shares a birthday with me and she turns 97. GET TO IT! Ray
Hey Kritz, you want MORE incentive to quit? With the way that YOU smoke, I bet a weeks worth of NOT smoking would cover your entry fee to Autorama!
