  1. I know this is a little ot but damn Bill Brown was lucky to Survive and Bill also owned the Newsagent down the road from where my dad grew up and that is where dad bought most of his Hot Rod mags in the 60s and 70s he still has most of them too.

I have a March 6, 1960 color 8mm home movie of a jalopy race at Western Speedway Gardena where the '32 Ford 5-window Coupe of Art Atkinson is flipping side-over-side on the front straight when Art is suddenly ejected through the top of the car. Art was a very lucky man and survived. The most re-produced track photographer still photo in the history of So-Cal jalopy racing is included here. The home movie was taken by the wife of another driver. Years ago I transfered the home movie to video tape and marketed it on VHS. Any HAMB member who has the tapes and can transfer once again from VHS to Computer file this would be very cool. I plan to do it myself sometime in the future.

Definitely part of Aussie racing folklore.

Kinda reminds me of my uncle's buddy who drove his PhaseIII under a train.
He had to go the ol' duck and cover too!

I reckon he was lucky not to get speared by the fence supports which seem to be lengths of railway track. Close call for the spectator/marshall too. Glad it turned out ok.

Jimmy, I remember seeing it on TV at the time, a couple of things to note: the tow truck and the fact that the race was still going, a lot different these days eh!
Oh and there's a bloke wearing some very disturbing shorts

How did Michael Waltrip survive the crash at Bristol in 1990 when he slammed the end of the fence. I don't know how to embed the video from youtube. I guess you could click here.

I was on the base of the TV camera platform about 100 feet past where the car finally stopped and somewhere I have a bunch of color and black and white pix of the incident and the aftermath.
O/T, I spoke with Bill's former wife Sue Ransom last week. She also road raced and later drove jet dragsters and top fuel cars. She is currently living in Chicago.
