I have a 1955 Indiana plate that I want to mount on my 55. In 1955 Indiana issued a small plate that was the same length as a regular plate but only about 1 1/2" tall. I guess you mounted it above your 54 plate. Problem I have is the holes on my 55 plate don't line up with a reugular plates holes. They are about an 1" further out.So did Indy also have a bracket that adapted ? Any help would be great.I don't want to drill out my plate as these are hard to find. Thanks

A friend of mine has it on his 55 and it worked just fine. His is an 18,000 mile all original.

Kinda hard to tell from what you said, but did you have a new plate on their that you're replacing with the '55 plate? Maybe your bracket's not right. You could probably make an adapter bracket pretty easily either way.

License plates weren't a uniform size or bolt hole configuration from state to state or even year to year in some cases, until the Feds mandated the current 6"x12" format for the 1957 model year for all states.
