Does anyone know where I can find an article published by Street Rodder Magazine where Mr. Dick Dean shows how to chop a top of a 1950 Mercury? I have a picture of the first page of the article...It might have been published about 1989/1990...

I've probably got it stashed somewhere but it would take a year to find it.

If you can find out which issue it is in. Street Rodder may have a copy in their back issues stash that you can buy.

The Tex Smith book How to chop Tops http://www.amazon.com/How-Chop-Tops...bs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1228151727&sr=8-2

has a similar article By Andy Southard of a Merc being chopped by Butch Hurley and Rod Powell. That is well detailed.

I think Thenightprowlers.com is having a sale on "how to chop a merc" videos, at least the last time I visited their site. They are Tommy Steadman's videos, very high quality (information wise).

Bumping up this old thread to see if anyone has this article.
I'm in the process of chopping a '51 Merc for a customer using the Dick Dean chopped Lee Lucero Merc as inspiration. There is one part of the chop in particular that I would like to see how Dick approached it. Thanks.

  11. Southend Kustom now = Keith Dean. The way Keith lays roofs is beyond beauty. You should talk to him. P.S. Tell your customer to keep the 51 rear window. :)

Don't worry we already have the profile done and tacked together with the '51 rear window

    Thanks for the pics Rik.
I wish you had pics of the lower corner of the window under the trim.
I'm figuring out the best way to transition the C-pillar to the window frame. With the window leaned forward the frame is narrower then the C-pillars and if I try to lean the pillars in it will make a valley behind the belt line trim.
Dick makes it look like it lines up perfectly.
Was hoping to get a look at that article before working on the car tomorrow, but I guess I'll just have to come up with something on my own.

Thanks to Rik and the guys who e-mailed the article to me.

The article didn't talk about what info I was looking for, but I figured it out from the pics.

It is written in this page of the article that Dick Dean was explaining to the camera how to use Plasma Cuter and the tapes would be available at Dean's Automotive...Does any one has a copy of those tapes?
