That's what I call a "Major Minor". I thought I had things crammed in my SBC Anglia. It's spacious compared to the Morris.
    Nice Ride Amigo!

Think a Moon tank in the grille would slow it down any?

    What a cool ride!!!! [IMG]

  4. Cool!

What kind of tires are on the rear? Are they slicks? Or street tires and you swap to slicks at the drags?

This little thing must be beyond a kick to drive... how "stable" is it at 130?

    Sam.

Okay, I'm back. Thanks to the English guys for their comments and pix - what a reality slap to hear from the mother land! (that 4-door must be quite the sleeper, and the red convert is - well, too nice!)
Sam, the car has Yokohamas all around: 135-13s up front, and 345-45-15s out back (only 23" tall, giving an effective ratio of 4.10-1, with my 3.91 gear). I run M/T 26X10 slicks at the track (6 psi), and yeah, it's pretty dang stable on the big end. Launch is exciting, then it hunkers down and goes just fine. I tried running it once on the street tires, and - it didn't work so well - wildest ride of my life, much like the video you posted...
Oh, I considered the Moon tank up front, but no room, so there's an Eelco 2 gallon tank in the trunk (constant gas stops are OK w/ me - feels good to get out and stretch...

Minor's are one of my all time favourites. The first car I chopped was a Minor, kept it totally standard except for a 3" slice. Loved it.

A 3" chop, eh? Hmmmm....I sketched out some ideas like that for mine, including one with a shortened top, making it a 3-window, w/ no front sheetmetal and a 5" dropped axle and zoomies, no rear fenders, and bobbed the deck several inches - kind of a comp coupe lookin' thing. Too bad I can't post pix yet - it was pretty cool. Anyone seen one done that way?

It was a really easy chop. Cut out the entire rear window section, mark and cut the front pillars the desired amount, cut the rear off at the lowest possible point and trim, then lay the whole roof back on and weld up. Lay the rear window section back on and weld in. I've got a piccie or two at work, I'll post 'em tomorrow.
There was a couped Mog built over here back in the '80's, V6 powered and really cool. I've got no photos of it but I remember it got featured in one of the Brit rod mags.

Restored Mog's were huge over here in the late '80's and early '90's. I left school in '87 and my first job was at the Morris Minor Centre Birmingham. I stayed there for 2 and half years restoring Mogs at a far higher cost than they were ever worth. The guys there were a great bunch to work with.

Looks like a cherry pie from the photo! Mine was metallurgically challenged when I got it, and it's not much better now...I'm surprised DMV would register a Morris to someone named Crosley. Hope you have half as much fun with yours as I've had - and I'm not done yet...

  15. Jangleguy sold me one eggsactly like the one pictured above. I'd scan a photo of it but it's no different than that one...same colour even.
When he owned it, we slammed it and put bigs and littles on the stock rims..still had the 948 in it. Somehow we blew the tranny one night...bitch to swap out!

Rocky neglected to mention that he worked over a 215 Olds for it - polished the aluminum block, even...That was gonna be the first engine for mine, then I wanted a 500 Cad, then Rockys old 301 Chevy, then etc, etc...You know how that goes...The current engine is it's 2nd 400 though...And prolly it's last...

If you fellas do Rear End swaps on these cars, don't throw the old ones away...
Its what the rear suspension in my Mallock Vintage Racer is based on, and I would like to buy some spares...

There was a really cool Chopped nosehigh Morris Minor Gasser in the English magazine Street Machine long time ago , called "Canned Heat".
I wanted to scan a pic of it, but the only cool clear pic was too large for my scanner...

Metalshapes: My rearend is long gone, and I regret it (that sounds funny). They're cool...Aluminum friction shocks are cool too - Rocky got my last pair...My Anglia had all the same stuff under it, but I traded it all for other parts I needed. And I have that little magazine with "Canned Heat" in it - Hemi powered! I'd scan it for ya, but I left my scanner in my other pants...

no "nerfing" here jangleman, just wanna those moments where it looked like i had been there before, although none of that sounds familiar..........

  20. Regretably, I sold the Armstong shox off your Morris at the last swap meet...got $1 for all 4 of 'em I think. Well, the guy gave me the dollar for the white plastic 5 gallon bucket they were in...
I'd clean forgotten about the Polished 215 Olds I was gonna put in the Morris. I sold it at the swap met too. Then I put the morris up for sale and then red-beard Timmy came over to buy it and had a busted leg and couldn't bend down to look under it to check for rust and he bought it and 3 years later you and I were at the Westfair swap meet and Timmy was selling Morris parts and you stupidly said "We usta have a Morris" and timmy recognised me and he said "YOU! You said there was no rust under that Morris!" and he recounted how he hadda replace a front frame section and Scotty? I wish to hell you'd just shut the hell up sometimes!

Canned Heat! Damn, I remember that feature. It was silver a ran a blown V6, if I recall correctly. Red pinstriping on it?

This is a real crummy picture but this was in pre-digital camera days. I've had to scan this in using a crap scanner at work. I'm sure I've got better snaps at home.

Metalshapes - you're right, Canned Heat DID run a blown V-6.
I have a feature on a Swedish Morris called the Bumble Bee with a Hemi in it - my bad...At the time we built mine, I thought I had this real original idea, then I found those features. Then one night I roll into Smartys burger joint in Grants Pass, Oregon, and a guy sticks his head in my window, saying he has one similar to mine, and then another guy joins in, and before I knew it, we had a club of 7 guys in this area (the Tyre Friars Hot Rod Gang) with little English street/strip cars - all low buck beaters, and we all thought we were the only ones doing such a thing...Maybe there's no such thing as an original idea...

Jangleguy, Both your cars have reminded me of how badly I fucked up by getting rid of my 105E Anglia and my Capri Classic before that... ( like the one Nads has )
Oh well... I think the Anglia is in New York now, and the Capri belongs to a buddy of mine that likes restored original cars...
