1 1/2 COILS GAVE ME 3" UP FRONT AND TAKING OUT ALL THE LITTLE LEAFS GAVE ME ABOUT 2" IN THE BACK. OF COURSE MY SPRINGS WERE WORN OUT, BUT THIS SHOULD GET YOU CLOSE

Charles, lets see some pics of your Belair with the lid lowered! In-progress shots are always appreciated too.

what are the downsides of cutting the coils, does it mess with the steering geometry in the front?

I took 3 1/2 coils outta my 54 chevy was good for 3 1/2" drop, sits good, want it alittle lower myself, but the front wheels almost hit the fender rool on full turn, guess that's as low as i go...

Is the nailhead in it right now? Dont cut anything till the motor and ****** are in it, otherwise you'll be doing it all over again. And BTW, a coil and a half gave me just about 2 inches.... -J.

    Rustypipes,
Do you have any problems with bump steer?

I cut 2 coils out of my 53, and don't have that problem yet, but it's not close to sitting where i want..
I was thinking of leaving the cut coils, and getting some dropped upright's..
    I havn't devided yet..
Also, what size tire's you running on that, and do they rub at all when you turn?
Tire's and rims are another thing i need to buy for mine..
I'm not sure if i'm gonna run radials, or bias yet, but i'm thinking 215-75-15 will be a good size..

    nice car, and
    Thanks

I have 205-75-15 radials on and you can barely slide a piece of paper on full turns, but it's 3 1/2" dropped

When you cut the coils, does it matter how you do it? I mean, just do a perpendicular cut?, or a slant cut? And do you cut off the top of the coil sping, or the bottom of the coil spring, or does it matter?
