A little off topic, but it reminds me of a funny story. In Montana we have large hairy spiders called Wolf spiders. Friend of mine wanted a 56 Olds dash for his 50 Merc. We drove 150 miles one way to look at the car. Cool day, no spiders seen. Argued all the way home as to whether dash was bolted or welded in. I knew it was welded. Friend weighs over 300 lbs. Knew he wasn't going to be crawling under the dash anyway. The day came to go get the dash. I loaded the Generator and Saws All. Told once again we wouldn't need it. Get to the car, friend opens the door, jumps, comes to the truck white faced and says "We are leaving now" I asked "Why" He responded " Because that Damn car is full of Spiders!" "I hate spiders!" I went to look. Many large Wolf spiders. I jumped in and crawled under the dash. Welded. Told my friend we weren't going back without the dash & it wouldn't take long to get it cut out. I was making good progress & he came up to about ten feet away to look. I couldn't resist being an Ass. Told him the vibration from the saw was causing them to jump, but he would be all right as long as they didn't start howling. Long story short, we got the dash, but I did all the work myself, and it was a long drive home. Spiders can be very dangerous. Be careful. We also have Black Widow's and Brown Recluse.
I can sypathize Mark, when I went to replace the stock rearend in my Falcon with a 9", I crawled under the car and came face to face with a black widow and it's nest. I took a stick and swirled it around, removing the nest and the spider. I came out on top though, as the spider was no match for my size 10 1/2. (squish!)
carb cleaner will kill the hell out of a spider. i had a 56 caddy that was eat up with black widows after about a month i killed them all with carb cleaner...i think.
I actually tried the ceder shavings,spread them around and under the car,and in nylon stockings in side(although I never saw one web inside)-It seemed to work for a while,a week or so and the webs would be back.The exterminator I have coming out tomorrow is a long time friend of my parents and I got some good info from him-symptoms of a black widow bite-numb arms,erratic heart rate,speech becomes difficult,motor skill falter-exactly what I experienced-this scared the shit out of me.The webs are not symmetrical,there thick,sticky and erratic-most likely you will not see the spider till its to late-1% of people bitten die(you will feel like you going to)-mostly the older and very young are at risk,and your pets are at high risk
Mark - Didn't know we had Black Widow spiders in Maryland. I thot they were in dryer, warmer climates. I know we have those Brown Recluse spiders. They're a nasty bunch, too.
I slid under a truck recently here to have a look at shift linkage. It was barely high enough off the ground to get my head under it without a jack. When I looked up under the truck a large black window in her web was about 1" from my nose. It didn't take me long to yank my head out from under it again. Spiders are about the only thing that scare me, other than IRS agents...

Been in the USMC for 18 yrs, been alot of places, seen alot of stuff, but none of that scares the crap outta me as much as daggone spiders. Brought my convertible home, had a ginormous black widow crawl onto my pant leg, damn near had to change my shorts. I bug bombed that car twice in a row. Two underneath, 1 in the trunk, 2 inside. Overkill, but I aint going down for being outgunned. The lizard idea is cool as hell, but the ole lady already hates my cars. I dont think she would cozy up the ideal of riding with wildlife.
Yeah, I guess besides everything else we have to be to build a hot rod, we have to be entomologists as well. Are those spickets the weirdest things you've ever seen?? I'd never seen anything like that in my life. Where did they come from? Be safe!
Home stores , hardware store and places like that have the bug bombs . Those are mostly used them for fleas . That will only kill the live ones but won't do a thing for all the babies waiting to hatch . You need to spray everything first to kill whatever the bug bombs don't get . The bombs spray up and done get into doors and places like that . Regular liquid bug spray will do the trick . As for mice , make sure there are no holes for them to get into your car . If you have a problem when in storage , then use poison on the outside of your car , not the inside . You really don't want dead critters in your car decaying ! Mothball and those wise tales don't work ! I was an exterminator for about 5 years and killed everything that crawled , slithered and flew around ! Retro Jim
This is what they look like.Dont know what there really called,we all just call them sprickets.They werent here ten years ago.These things like to hide in your car Wash buckets-there are lots of them in the Brooklyn through Pasadena area.We import so much product I think an insect could wind up anywhere(personaly I think there from Mars LOL)--Bowtie stop by my way some time and I will show ya some
Yeah. It'd be embarassing to watch a video of me dealing with a spider. I just hate them. As much as spiders scare me, nothing beats the time I wiped out on my longboard and found myself face to face with f'n scorpion about a foot from my face...
The only reason you would have snake,s around your home or car is there is food there,mice ect.Or passing thru looking for food.I lived in the woods on 7 acre,s and king snakes around,best thing for getting rid of mice,the green way, never had a mouse/rat problem in the house or garage.But have had a snake under the seat of my lawn mower..................YG
Here in the desert we have most kinds of spiders. I grew up in Arkansas and have seen the spiders there as well (bit twice by a brown recluse, different times... very nasty shit). But of all the spiders I have encountered, the only one I have seen that will 'attack' is called a wind scorpion. They will chase after you. These little guys scare the shit out of me because they are generally too quick to stomp, and I don't want to be that close to them . I would rather deal with actual scorpions that those little bastards.

First time I ever saw them, half spider half cricket, ugly! Now we live in Eldersburg and I have spider problems with my truck that sits outside, they get all over the underside and even some in the inside. You know an old truck just is not sealed up very well. My Cadillac and my son's Chevy sit inside and they still get there share around the chassis. The best way I have found to get rid of them is to drive the cars more!! <!-- / message -->
I'm in the Sykesville/Eldersburg area myself. I see a few Black widows a year, not too worried about those, as they aren't very aggressive. Only one I do worry about it the Brown Recluse. I see one or two a year out here, and death is always on the menu for them if I spot one. BTW, interesting fact, we actually have lizards in Maryland, too. I have seen them while hiking in Marriottsville.
On a serious note ,to really rid of spiders,ect you have to use a deep penatrating spray that last.Ever go in the woods thats had a fire there and the very next day ,after things cool enough,there will be spider webs up trying to catch there meal.They hide deep under ground,pile of rocks ect.The bug bombs will work on the inside ,but not outside.............Call Billy(whats his name)........................YG
