The 'ol 33 Ford pickup is now officially a V8!!

  1. ****See page 6 for fire up video****

I yanked the ol B out last week for the big swap. Everything came out really well. I finished up the engine and tranny, cleaned the firewall and frame and did some painting under the hood. Today I set the engine and tranny in, looks like factory! The engine is a 1934 221. Pretty stock sand a Winfield cam, adjustable lifters and the Thickstun. I gotta figure out the rear end. It is a V8 rear end that was under it. V8 rears have longer torque tubes then a 4 banger. The wheelbase was longer then normal, the rear wheels sat way back in the fender wells. So I figured the V8 rear was crammed under the pickup, and when I removed the 4 cylinder the rear would come forward. Well, it did not so tonight I put a chain and come-a-long on the rear end and tried pulling the rear forward. Wouldn't budge. So I gotta figure that out and waitin on the water pumps and radiator. You can see in the last picture how far back the bell of the torque tube is compared to the ball on the back of the trans.
    I'll keep y'all updated as I go.

Very sanitary. Man I can't believe how clean your engines are before they go in. Any recommendations on how to clean and paint my trans without taking out the guts?

I still hope you break down though, if you father built the engine I think I don't have a chance in hell but if you built it with your fat fingers.....well then I think you're as good as gone!!!

Nice engine Chris! Of course I would say that.;)
Nice to see another pump in head motor being used. :)

  16. OK guys I think I have the rear end thing figured out. It was a V8 rear under the truck...V8's are longer in the torque tube but how was it jammed under there with a 4 banger? Well I dropped the spring out and it's really screwed up. The leafs are bent back twards the back of the truck and the ends are twisted. It is also sprung out of shape, not uniformly round from side to side. I hope with another spring my rear end problem is solved!

The non-reversed eye spring is the one out from under the truck:

  23. Inspirational!

  24. Use a wire brush and brake clean. Just scrub it up then paint it. Remember engines/trannys are cast so they have texture to the metal....Not like painting the body of a car.

  25. I need a rear spring :D

For your fore/aft problem, did you switch the rear tranny mount around as you put the V8 in? The same mount is used, but is assembled one way for a four-cylinder, and reversed for the V8 in a 33 and 34.
