Distributor Shaft Bushing SBC

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Scotch Buzzard King, May 8, 2010.

  1. Does anyone make a replacement bushing for the distributor shaft on a small block Chevy?

NAPA makes some applications for the chevy unit.
Is it cast iron or aluminum housing??
. We install bushings but its a pain. Easier to use another core based on the fact that most of the time if the bushing is bad the shaft is pretty beat up.
I have quite a few cores laying around if ya just need a shaft and housing with good bushings.......glad to help.......

  5. A friend of mine gave me an older Mallory that I would really like to use, but it has side to side movement on the bottom bushing. Its not too bad, but its enough to cause timing issues.

We can rebush it. Bushing with rebuild, curve and set up would be $96..
    with points etc.
    Electronic version would be $192

Just ship it to us with a note , free shipping for hamb dudes.....

  7. That's a pretty good deal on the rebush Bubba.

Mallory wouldn't sell me a bushing for mine they said you would have to be a helluva machinist to install it. So I ended up making my own. If I figured my time it cost me a ton.

I'm trying to find bushings for our 1972 C10 Truck with 402. Kendrick said they don't have much left for distributor parts. All I could get is the lower bushing and nothing else.

Anyone else have any idea where to get them?

The 402 is a very common housing. I can send ya a shaft and housing easier than i can do a bushing. Ya want cast or aluminum??? I can check and clean you up either one. All the V8s use the same dimention housing.:)

I appreciate it but I'm trying to rebuild it back with the original distributor number which is 1112064. To be honest, I don't know if the bushings are bad. I just am assuming they are.

I replaced them on a Corvette distributor once and it wasn't a big deal. I didn't have to ream them or anything. Not sure if this is typical.

However, I can not find any bushings for this one. I can only find them for Corvettes.

Odds are they are in good shape , the chevys seldom eat a bushing as long as the engine has proper oiling etc. The corvette builders is where i usually get my bushings.........

Great! I really appreciate your help.

I also ordered a Mallory Unilite conversion so I could eliminate points but keep the stock look. What is your opinion of the quality of the Unilite? I ask because after I purchased it, I heard some bad opinions of it.

I prefer the pertronix over the uni-lites.:)
