Ive got a 60 Falcon i swaped out the 144 6cyl with a 170 and cannot get the throttle linkage right or much less work. Does lokar make anything for this or is there some kind of cable setup i can go with. Any help would be appreciated thanks. Im at my wits end with this.
Check with the guys here: http://www.fordsix.com/rules.php it's a ford six performance forum. They'll tell you the best way to get it fixed. You'd have to adapt an aftermarket cable which would most likely be harder than making the stock stuff work right.
My 62 has a 200 in it and I think that the stock linkage is still in it. I did not do the swap but I belive that there was not much modification that had to be done. Check out this post http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=433937 I think there might be a picture of it in there. I can check it when i get back in town.
Could you post a picture of what your having a hard time with? Most early Falcons had an aluminum adapter that turned the carburetor about 45 degrees to the manifold, if your missing that it can be ral difficult to hook these puppies up.
Guess what John!!! Got ya! There are different adapters for different years. Mine on the engine for the Ranchero is 45 degrees! The on one the spare motor is 45 degrees too. My 250 for my Falcon is ninety degrees though! Who cares, it's about 115 degrees out anyway!!! My point was though that if you don't have the adapter in place and the carb on correctly, the shebang could look real weird come linkage time... Old age and treachery....
Well what i have is a carb and a adapter plate off of a 250 out of a maverick, on a 170, in a car that came with a 144. The adapter off of the 144 wont fit the 170.
I have had two cars that I swapped the 144 for 200's and both used the stock linkage and kickdown just fine. You MIST have the proper carb adapter, so the carb is in the right orientation to work, then it's easy as pie.
I believe that's what you're going to need. I have a really scongie adapter here, but I'll have to look and see if it is usable. I can do it later in the day if you like. If it is usable I'll throw it in the mail for you....
