It has been a year and a half and I am only this far now. But I can drive it down the street and, man, that feels so cool!

Windshield is in the frame... windshield frame is mounted. Visor is next! Then on to repairing rusted spots and getting the body in shape.

Only mechanical issue is that for some reason the ****** won't shift into 3rd gear now (turbo 350). I had issues with it shifting into 2nd gear before and it turned out to be the governor piston was stuck a little and I moved it and lubed it up good and it started working fine. I think I am going to have to pull the pan and check the other valves for sticking. Hopefully that will be the fix.

Sure does. I mean, I drive it around the block before, but the first real ride was to the gas station to fill 'er up. Killed it and trusted it to start back up and get me home. At night no less so had to depend on the lights too! lol doesn't sound real difficult, but when it is the first car I have ever built from basically part of a frame and a body, that is coming a long way for me! :)

Looks like MILES OF SMILES ahead for you! :D

If you haven't already, double check the A/T fluid level when hot and the adjustment of the shift linkage and detent cable. Also make sure the governor gear's not worn.

  22. Todd... You brought back memories of the first time I drove my Stude g***er on the street. After 3 years of working on it, never driving it ever. I got to the point when I could ( and just had too) It was about 10:00 pm, I idled it down the driveway, got it out into the old country road where I live. The one headlight was facing down, and the other one was up in the sky, Gave it about half the throttle and it through me back so hard in the seat, I let off of it and it stalled, coasted it down the road til it stopped, fired it back up, and idled it back to the garage. It took several miles of driving it to get used to it but it was the funnest ride I ever owned. I know what you are feeling. I hope you have a blast with your cool ride. - Breeze

165/15 radials on front - old style volkswagen beetle tires. They are getting hard to find. I had a local tire place run some down for me. They cost more than the larger rear tires. I couldn't afford to go with the bias ply tires at the point where I was needing to get tires on there, so this will have to do for a while.

I fianlly figured ou tthe transmission issue with is not shifting into 3rd gear also! I ended up pulling the pan and the filter then dropping the valve body out of the ****** and working the valves and I found one that was stuck. It didn't take much at all and it was freed up and moving freely as well as the rest of them, so I threw it all back together and tried it out and all grears are available now!!!!!

Next I found a few other issues such as the hollow br*** float filled up with gas and sank causing the neeld and seat to stay open and just pour gas into the carb. I grabbed the float off of one of the other 2 carbs that were in worse shape and it is fixed for now, but I want to get one of the newer black floats for it to head that off before it happens again.

Also the Alternator never was charging and all the times I had it runnning, it was running on the battery alone. Finally ranit down and I noticed the issue. Turns out I had left the wire from the alternator to the battery off completely when I was wiring everything up! FIXED!

Also got the stainless grill mounted in the shell now too, so it looks a bit more "complete" in the front.

Got finished with all that last weekend, so now I need to get a few good shake down runs on it and make a few longer drives in it to get to where I trust it more and see if anything shakes loose. lol

Yes, it is an awesome feeling getting to drive it around!!!! First time I have ever built something from the ground up like that. Really feels good to get to drive something you have put that much time and effort and sweat and blood into! I"m even more addicted than I was before.
