I have a 37 Ford Deluxe. It has spots for 2 wipers overhead. I have nothing in there now. I was looking at (its a snap) on ebay, but heard they are ****. What is a good wiper kit that doesn't cost an arm and a leg for?? Thanks.. Al

I bought their smallest unit. It was around $100, but it is extremely compact. I have a small header above the windshield to tuck it in. They have many configurations to include upper or lower duals. Nice people to talk to as well. Range Rovers?!

spw makes a wiper kit as well.. its cable driven (like the its a snap) except that its of higher quality and NOT made in china.. I have it for sale in the cl***ifieds.
Spent yesterday installing an SPW kit. They're good and well made, based on the pommy (British) style wiper mech. Seems most every British car used a version of the cable drive system, incl. Minis, Morris 1100's, Marinas, Jags, Land Rovers etc. It rains all the time in Britain, so they must know what they're doing , right? But what was once common in wrecking yards is now not so common. And worn. And not as cheap as they used to be either. If you ever drive a car any distance - further than from the trailer at the motel to the showground - or live in a desert and never go anywhere, you'll encounter bad weather somewhere and wipers that work can be very welcome. Especially if you actually keep driving in the rain. It's a Snap and their stable mates TPI Tech are cheap junk that are best kept away from. They either don't work properly, fail, or at best are just plain NOISY. More than one person has cheaped out only to pull them and spend more money to buy good stuff. Rant over.

Yes. I saw that, but if you look at the 37 Coupe. They are only installing one side. I need for both sides. That would call for two motors. I think I found my kit. It is a Specialty Power WWK-21. It seems to have evrything there, execpt for the arms and blades. sawzall I will look in the cl***ifieds to see what you have. da34guy must be selling Rain-X..
Take a look at the British Sports Cars MG, Austin Healy.... They all use a CABLE Drive system and its very easy to install.... By reversing the wheel housings you can make the wipers work in tandem or center to center... Hope this helps Rich.... PS I bought 2 complete sets on Ebay (CHEAP)
I couldn't find any one that made a good dual wiper setup with a park position for a 1930 Foed model A, so I built my own. I used the motor and linkage from a 67 VW. Made the pivots for the arms out of br*** pipe and fittings. Cleaned the br*** up on the lathe so it was round without the hex head stuff. The shafts were made from 1/4" drill rod with the VW inner linkage arms welded on. I mounted them through the header about 1 1/2" above the windshield.The motor is mounted on the right side. It has 2 speeds and a park position. I'll try to get some pics later.
Sounds good, but I don't have all of those tools. I do have a lathe, but it is for wood.. I have been thinking though. What cars, or trucks had overhead wipers?? If I found one of those in a junk yard then I could just extend, or make a new rod. Something to think about.. Thanks for all of your help.. Al
Al the thing with the British OEMs or new SPW versions of the same system is that you can mount them anyplace you want, have them swing any direction you want (clap hands, side to side etc top or bottom) and have the freedom to mount the drive motor anywhere you want, within reason, incl. behind the dash, the kick panel and so on.
This was the hot setup at one time with many of the mags doing write ups, then the after market took over and it became a long lost secret. If you can solder ends on speedo cable and flare some brake line to guide your cable thru its a great and cheap way to add electric wipers. In fact its been copied by the after market and not as well or reliable. Second choice for me would be a VW van, any generation would work as liong as you're not driving some super heavy arms then I'd want one out of a vanagon or later. Both setups really affordable at u-pull its.
Hi, Just registered here. Sad thing is, I registered to p*** on some information about It's a snap. Stay away from their stuff!! My wipers sound like a coffe grinder, and they won't do anything about it. It is all my fault. So, now I am going to get either an AutoLoc kit, or a SPW kit. They will stand behind their products. The kit I got had no instructions with it, so I used the SPW ones. They all install the same. Instead of the aluminum tube, I used 3/8" soft copper. Nothing smaller than a 4" radius bend. The problem I found with the aluminum tube, is it has a tendency to egg shape when bent. Everything moved real nice, no binding up at all. The more I let the motor run, the louder it became. A real piece of junk. I suppose you could say I won't be using them, because I don't drive in the rain. Well, things happen, rain happens. So, from a safety point, I want something that works right. auto loc and it a snap are virtually the cheap rip off of the Specialty Power Window kit. SPW just copied the early british whatever thing. We use both spw and Mighty wipes and have had good results with both, however with a windshield that leans back and a relatively large wiper arm and blade the wind at highway speeds will actually push the wiper blade on top of the roof and strip the gears out of the mighty wipe box. I definitely recommend the SPW set up for your car, especially with two wipers. My $.02
I have the Mighty Wiper in 3 of my cars,compact and never a problem. With the blade and arm, $140.00.
UPDATE Nov. 2009 I unfortunately got ****ed in to the It's A Snap. It is truly junk. I spent about 40 hrs. trying to make work properly. Main problem is drive cable jumping a gear tooth or two. Then wipers out of sync. Also the the splined adapter for the wiper arms is to small diameter (.020"), so standard ANCO wiper arms ( nominal 1/2" type) slip. Also metal for wiper transmission is not hardened so it stretches making the slipping worse. I just bought the Specialty Power Windows kit - hope it works.
I used Newport Engineering for my '38 Pontiac. Installed in 30 minutes worked perfectly the first time. $206.
I second the recommendation of Newport Engineering kits. I installed one in my brother's '38 Ford coupe and one in my '47 Ford and both were very well made, fit right and worked great. I am now going to install one in my '40 Buick. Nice people with excellent products. Ray
