Is your buddy gonna put a dropped axle on that 9N?...:D

  3. Is it a Funk conversion or homemade?

I had a 2N Ford tractor for a number of years. The engine wore out,the 4 cylinder which has Flathead V-8 pistons, rods and some other pieces, has thin pressed cylinder sleeves. The local machine shop **** canned the sleeves, bored the block to accept .125 over Flattie V-8 pistons.Seemed like a good idea but there was a slight relief left at the top of the cylinders making getting the piston rings into the cylinder difficult.I modifed a ring compressor to do the job.So the engine probably made 25 HP instead of the stock 24 HP:D
The N series were well designed for farmer repair, like most every bolt was a 9/16 or 5/8 inch head. Still see many N tractors in orchard use up here by Lake Ontario.

Flatheads just look right in these.

A local rodder here has 8N's with "one of each" manufacturer plus a turbine, plus, plus. I think he has turned out 1 or 2 a year since he retired.

My dad has a 8n. One of the first things I learned to drive. He has had for years, all he has ever done is put a alternator on it, and some front tires. Uses it all winter to feed his cows. Sits all summer. Starts every fall ;)

Absolutely the best-looking early tractor ever. And with a flattie it's just better. Funk is the best-known of the conversions (keep in mind that on the originals, the block IS the frame - to swap in a V8 takes some serious fabrication and the FUNK kit contained just about everything needed. There was another company that made a conversion, but as usual, the name escapes me.

I drove an 8N on a ranch up near Pomeroy when I was 13 or so, and again at a dairy farm (pushing cowpies) a year or two later. If I could have driven it home, I would have.

Yep mee too.. My first thing to drive. Those tractors are tough! Just watch your fingers and thumbs when you hit a stump or hole.

I think Funk also made a conversion for a flat six, longer hood and all. If I remember right their was a conversion out there from a co. by the name of Glover also.
