I just got an f1 ford pickem up Im new to fords so Im trying to figure out what i have... the rear end looks to be wrong for the truck because of the homemade spring perches and the rear spring mount too.also i was told that it was not the original flaty v8. i know the flatheads used different distributor designs through out the years i was wondering what all i have as far as a drive train?? please help! thanks guys
Kinda tough to tell what you've got without seeing the rest of the truck. The engine looks to be a 59AB flathead, so it's pre-1948. That rear-end is a banjo rear which I believe they used in trucks until 40 or 41 (I might be wrong and someone will correct me). And a closed drive transmission. What year truck is this "supposed" to be?? F-1 started in 1948, but would have had the 8BA flathead and a Dana open drive rear.
Could you post some pictures of the truck itself? The engine looks like a wartime 24 stud. But I see in the picture showing the transmission that you have an earlier distributor with it to. So if that's the distributor that was originally on the truck it may be a pre 1941 truck. I'm thinking the parallel leaves are NOT original and that those are the main non-stock part on the truck. IF you have an F1 body, you may have a 1941'ish truck frame/engine with a reworked rear suspension and a F1 body.. or you may just have mislabeled an early ford truck as an F1.
That is REALLY WEIRD! Looks like a farmer built ch***is... flathead is too early for an F1, trans/axle is closed drive (pickups from '42 on up were open drive and from '42-'47 had open drive parallel leaf sprung banjo rears, but this one is obviously originally a tranverse sprung rear!) I think someone swapped the whole drivetrain from a '40s p***enger car under your pickup (***uming it truly is an F1). Here, here on pics of the whole truck...
I agree with the above comments. From what I can see of the sheetmetal, it looks like F1. I can't see enough of the frame to guess what it is, but with greenmonster48 - the front shock brackets are F1 so chances are good the frame is too. Engine/trans/rear end were transplanted from something earlier - probably car. The way the rear axle is attached to the springs is definitely home-made. Factory F1 used a cast spring mount/shock bracket that's missing here.
love the info guys thanks!! i knew i had a reworked eng, trans, rear end combo........the frame is f1 but yes the drive train is all mixed up kinda weird looks like i may have my roadster drivetrain!!!
