Gong to an auction this weekend that has lots of Ford rear ends. Kinda like this "round center" one but unsure if it is a Ford 9". Can anyone tell from this picture? Thanks in advance. :)

  2. It sure looks like a 9 inch from here but the real clue is the chunk to housing bottom bolts. If you can put a deep socket on the bottom nuts/studs it's an 8 inch. If not it's a 9 .Looking at the perches and housing that is an old one.

  3. From what I can see in that picture, it looks like a 57 wagon 9" rear

  5. If you can't get a deep socket on these it's a 9 inch.

It looks like a 9" roundback to me - a desireable piece because of their intrinsic esthetic beauty. The '81 Bronco rear end in my champ car is also a roundback 9". To which I grafted a Winters quick-change.

Hey Ratmotor, Great tip with the deep-well socket and the 8"-9" Ford 3rd member ID. Very simple and easy to explain. Even a caveman could do it !

Check and see if it has a bottom drain in the lower section of the housing. Right on the bottom. Every 57 Ford 9 inch I ever had ... had the drain plug. I have owned well over 2 dozen 57 Ford 9 inch rear ends. :D
